The 25 feet would probably be me with relatively fresh batteries... The TV is at the front of the living room, and I can get a straight shot from there through the dining room and the kitchen to the laundry room. Last time someone was asking about the range for the remote I took the big tape measure and tested. ;-) There's nothing quite like testing and measuring to get an answer. ;-) :D Hang on and I'll test it again with the same batteries after several more months of light use...

OK, I'd say it's now about 50% from 25' and 85-90% from 22 feet. This is after over a year with the same batteries... The wireless keyboard tends to get used a bit more, so YMMV.

are you sure your batteries were good.

Breaks out the multi meter: Yep, brand new batteries measuring a healthy 1.6 volts. I admit I only tried it with Windows (before I got Myth set up), but I can't see how that would make a huge difference. I swear I was lucky to get 10 feet with it. Maybe I just got a bad unit.

I'd try it again with Lirc, but the 350 has been evicted from the Myth machine at the moment. I think I am going to break down and buy another 500. Anybody want to buy a 350 cheap?

BTW - This is IR after all, so we're talking line of sight or clear bounce. If I sit in the living room ~8 feet from the receiver and point the remote out into the sunporch it doesn't work worth beans. The white wall behind me, the white ceiling, ... or straight on, work just fine unless there is something in the way. How and where you set the receiver makes a big difference as a result.
