Hey Guys - Firstly i just want to say thank you very much for this great release of Myth - Very well done!

now that that is out of the way, i was wondering if someone can help me out with my setup i have at home. Let me go over a bit of equipment with you first. I have a backend, with a 200gb hd, 1 gig of ram in it, running 2 pvr-250s ( once connected to a digital cable box and using a serial ir blaster, and one analog cable) - i have another box i would like to add as a slave backend end, with a 160gb hd in it, 1 gig of ram. 2 pvr-150's in it (one will be for digital cable, and another analog cable again) - i also have a couple of xbox frontends as well (but we wont worry about those right now)...

What im looking to do is have the 2 backends start talking with each other, to share Harddrive space and such. right now, both backends are running the latest release of knoppmyth, seem to be talking ok as in, the slave backend is also a frontend on my main tv in the house.

Can someone please give me a little bit more understanding as to how i can get the slave backend's (frontend as well) hardrive to be used for recording space in my setup? I edited a couple of mysql.txt files (/etc/mythtv/mysql.txt and /usr/share/mythtv/mysql.txt) on this slave backend/frontend and changed the DBHostName line to my masterbackends ip (so happens to be 192.168.1.110).

Yet all i see if i go to information is the masterbackends free diskspace, or even mythweb reports that as well. The other thing i would like to do, as my slave backend/frontend is a faster computer then my master backend, is setup the frontend to do alot of the jobs, like transcoding and commercial flagging. Is there a way to have it so that the 2 machines share the load of jobs? IE: if there are a couple of jobs waiting from a couple of recorded shows (like commercial flagging and transcoding) that 1 takes one job and the other starts on the next?

Thanks in advance! Im sorry if these sound like stupi questions, but ive hit the gossamer threads for mythtv and tried to find an answer, as well as the forums here.

Thanks again!
- Scott

I don't think what you want is really possible, well it is open source and all so pretty much anything is possible, but not easily. each backend uses it's own disk for recording. I suppose if you created some sort of fancy distributed file system you could make it happen, but I think the important part is not easily. What you would most likely want to do is set the highest priority card in your master backend then pickup the first card in your slave then three goes back to the master and 4 to the slave. I think that wouldn't be too hard to setup.

Thanks Xsecrets for the quick reply, good to see some other geeks up at this time of night. Thats exactly what i was thinking as well, that each one would pull the hd it has in it.... for some reason i was thinking mabey it combined them some how... Im working on getting my DVDRips to work right now, and having a hell of a time figuring that out. Im a linux newb, and thought this would be a great project to learn with - so far so good.

Will Mythweb pull the entrys for the shows recorded on the slave as well as the master? It should as they are sharing the same DB...

as well, what are your thoughts on the Jobs?

Thanks
