I just compiled mythtv on ubuntu for a frontend only. I ran into trouble because ubuntu/debian uses a strange devel package selection. If you want to compile mythtv on ubuntu 5.04 here are the devel packages you will need. After you install them you should be able to compile correctly. (Thats right you dont see qt3-dev. It needs the mt libraries instead).
libqt3c102
libqt3c102-mt
libqt3c102-mt-mysql
libqt3-headers
libqt3-mt-dev
qt3-dev-tools
libttf2
libttf-dev
libxxf86dga1
libxxf86misc1
libxxf86vm1
libxxf86vm-dev

Since Matt works for Ubuntu, the MythTV Debian packages should work for Ubuntu. ;)

I had no problem installing the mythtv binaries for Ubuntu to make a second partial duty frontend.. Although this was a couple a months ago and the binaries were for 0.17. In fact, being able to apt-get mythtv packages was the big reason I switched from Debian to Ubuntu on all my other non-knoppmyth computers. I can't vouch for compiling the sources though because I didn't need to.

Sorry, I meant the Debian packages don't work on ubuntu. The ubuntu packages are still at .17 last time I tried, so I had to compile from source to connect to my knoppmyth backend.

Yes, the packages that are in the repositories are still 17. When I compiled from source it ran much faster for my 802.11g frontend. What fun is Linux if you can't compile? :D

I finished getting a frontend working on my Ubuntu box last night. You will have to manually install certain debs. Also, you will need to enable the universe repositories. Finally, to watch Videos you will need to compile MPlayer.
