hi,

i am very impressed with the latest release of knoppmyth R5A16, which i recently upgraded to from A10 without losing too much sleep !! great work ! it has been running nicely for more than a month.

hardware = asus pundit-r, cpu = celeron 2.0ghz, pvr350 (tuner=45 microtune), country = netherlands. installed knoppmyth r5a16 without changing anything apart from the modprobe ivtv needed.

now the bad news: last weekend i had a mythtv crash while watching a recording, and the backend was recording, so i reset the box with the power button. it restarted again and i continued watching my recording where i left off.

... but my box can no longer record tv, i get black screen instead of the usual recordings.

Any ideas where i can look to troubleshoot? any recommendations,

the settings for ivtv are not altered, and the database is also still being filled every day.

-> is a reinstall/recovery necessary, or perhaps just a reinstall of ivtv drivers. I have 140gb of recordings i would rather not lose. Or can running mythtv-setup help clear things up?

thanks for any tips and/or pointers

keep up the great work
one happy knoppmyth user

you may want to check your DB tables

thanks,

i tried checking the DB tables, but can find any errors in the tables.....

i did have some problems after the first reboot which i found in my syslog:

Jul 17 17:21:16 pvr2 /etc/mysql/debian-start[3049]: WARNING: mysqlcheck has found corrupt tables
Jul 17 17:21:16 pvr2 /etc/mysql/debian-start[3049]: mythconverg.credits
Jul 17 17:21:16 pvr2 /etc/mysql/debian-start[3049]: warning : 1 client is using or hasn't closed the table
properly

-> and a few more like that, but those are no longer being reported, must have fixed itself by now ? the box has been rebooted about 10 times since then.

--------------------

i have just tried resetting the video card settings via mythtv-setup, rebooted, and still no tv.

i wonder if another option besides reinstalling (via backup of course) exists.?

thanks again for any ideas

What krusher meant was:
You want/need to check your db for errors.

i understood that, i checked the database, but no database errors seen, all ok according to mysql.

tried rebulding database (force), still no luck. i have a feeling it is something else. hopefully not hardware

think i will reinstall this weekend - i hope that will be sufficient to get my machine up and running again, there is not too much on tv this week anyway in the netherlands :shock: - i will watch some backlog stuff first.

cheers

hi all,
thanks for all the tips.

what helped me in the end was this tip:

http://www.poptix.net/ivtv/current/msg00170.html

don't know how or why, but ivtv drivers for my card are secan/pal, and for some reason it was set to secam after my crash,

i now have this line in my /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv

root@pvr2:~# more /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-61 lirc_i2c
alias char-major-81 ivtv
alias char-major-81 bttv
options msp3400 once=1 simple=1
options ivtv tda9887=0
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe tuner; /sbin/modprobe msp3400; /sbin/modprobe saa71
15; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv; /sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb; /sbin/modpr
obe lirc_i2c
remove ivtv /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove ivtv && /sbin/modprobe -r saa7115
&& /sbin/modprobe -r msp3400 && /sbin/modprobe -r tuner && /sbin/modprobe -r i
vtv-fb && /sbin/modprobe -r lirc_i2c

--------------------

and all is fine

watching tv again :-)
