I see in the docs/forum/wiki discussions about mythfilldatabase and when/how it should be run, but I haven't seen a mention of exactly what it does. The main doc file from mythtv.org says that it fills the database with data. Is this the program data from zap2it? Does it do something else too?

I also saw that it says that it not a good idea to run it until you know the system is set up probably between the front and backend (on one box for me) or you can mess things up. How can I tell I am ready to run it?

I would like to understand as much as possible.

Thanks,

Mike

yes it takes data from your guide source (zap2it for the US) and puts it into the database. If you are using knoppmyth it should automatically run for you as soon as you finish the mythtv-setup portion and run through a cron job daily. So basically you really never should have to even know if it exists it should just work, as long as you complete the setup properly and don't run into any problems.
