Would it be possible or even a good idea to have separate fora for Installation for each new version of KnoppMyth?

As it stands, with each new version, all info is lumped into one section that has to be sorted out based on the version you are trying. Seems like that accounts for more trial and error.

Just a thought.

While I can see why the idea might occur to you, just imagine trying to convince newbies to look for FAQ on installation in the sub-forum for a different version. No thank you!

How about each poster/member add the KnoppMyth release that they're working with in their signature?

Just a thought.

KnoppMyth -> Installation is for problems/questions related to installing KnoppMyth not for suggestions on reorganizing the forum. Sorry, I won't be creating areas of the forum of each release. If folks would read my annoucements and search the forum, I'm certain they'd solve thier problems.

Jim, I'm a doctor, not a suggestion box! :)

Just some lighthearted humor. Keep up the good work. :)

Well, TJC, I for one would post my testing results in a forums tailored specifically for the version it was intended for. It would be nice to have that option.

CES--I do read the forums, as do others. And I do a lot of searching. There are quite a few times when something (a helpful hint) looks promising only to find out that it does not work anymore. At what point do I think "Oh, I've read all the posts, and I know which ones apply, and which ones are out of date?"

I'm a big fan of writing up a doc/procedure that steps people through exactly what needs to be done (or a script that will do it for them, time permitting).

These forums have always been very helpful, but as new releases of KnoppMyth are released, it becomes more and more difficult to have a matrix of which version and what steps are required to make someone's rig work.

By the way, what happened to the "version" file found in the /etc directory. I did an R5A16 install and it did not contain any text that hinted to the KnoppMyth version. I guess I'll have to use some crude tricks now to try and detect this again. A shame.

Crude trick?! /etc/KnoppMyth-version is there. I'm not going to make a seperate subsection of the forum for each release. Some folks simply don't read the description of the forum there are in and just start posting. When they do, it pisses me off. It maybe a small thing, but that is the way my brain works. A place of everything and everything in it place (at least on my forum). So what happens 4 release down the line? When Joe Sixpack has version XZY, yets posts in XYZ? It will happen and it will water me off. If there is an issue with a released version that you want fixed in the next release, write it up. I need the fives Ws and How. This is the best way users can help to improve KnoppMyth.
