Hello world,

If You have Aplituner with SPDIF, here's what you need to do to get it working with SPDIF on EPIA with plain vanilla R5A16 installed.

You actually have several things to do:
a) enable xine playing 5.1 content *and* stereo content via SPDIF
b) set mythmusic to output via SPDIF
c) set mythtv to output via SPDIF

First:
- Enable SPDIF output by setting the jumper on your motherboard.
- Then run alsamixer and set "IEC958 Playback AC97-SPSA" to 0
(IMPORTANT - without this SPDIF is working for all except video playback)

Now setting up MythTV:
- Go to Setup -> General.
- Turn on "ac3 passthrough".
- Turn off your mixer.
- Set your audio device to be "ALSA:spdif". (Yes, thats not one of the options, but you can just type it in.)

For MythMusic:
- go to Setup -> Music
- set audio device to be "ALSA:spdif". Same comment as above.

For Xine:
- right click -> Settings -> Setup.
- On gui tab set "Configuration experience" level to "Advanced" or higher.
- click "Apply"& restart XINE
- right click -> Settings -> Setup.
- select Audio tab:
o Set dev used for mono output (device.alsa_default_device) to iec958.
o Set dev used for stereo output (device.alsa_front_device) to iec958.
o Set dev used for 5.1-channel output (device.alsa_passthrough_device) to iec958.
o Ignore the other "device used for 5.1-channel output" (device.alsa_surround51_device).
o Set speaker arrangement to "Pass Through".

Now You can enjoy MythTV & LiveTV/RecordedTV/DVD/MP3/DIVX with highest possible sound quality - it is transported digitally to Your Aplituner, so there is no place to any distortions/noises, etc....

Enjoy :-)
