The only extra menu item in Knoppmyth is labelled KnoppMyth and exists so one can handily reboot/halt without a keyboard. All other menus are from MythTV or an official MythTV plugin.

Anyhow, in my experience developments teams tend to work pretty differently (I am ..in fact.. on one myself).

Oh! My goodness! Everyone, listen up, we're in the presence of a DEVELOPER! Please forgive us, mighty Developer, as we had no idea of your magical powers. How may we appease your highness? Please do not disfavor us because we were ignorant of your exalted status. We promise to give you the respect and admiration you so clearly deserve!

Please teach us, wise Developer, how Development should truly work so we will not wallow in our ignorance forever, blighted by our own stupidity. Raise us all, stupid oafs that we be, to your level of understanding and enlightenment so that we may comprehend your precious wisdom.

Wallowing in your ignorance, if thats what you feel like doing, is quite fine with me.

By trade I'm a systems administrator and what coding experience I have is mainly as you'd expect with such a job (packaging, scripting, bug hunting, more bug hunting, Intermittent crying and pulling of hair, etc).

But more importantly I like to offer help where I can. OSS users would do well to step up to the plate more. The concept is solid but in most cases one guy can only do so much.

Now if you boys are all done chiding me what can be done in terms of documentation, where are opportunities for the community to help? Maybe there aren't, but if there where it seems like little thinks like web-site management, docs, knoppix/debian package verification/commits would be the perfect thing to help keep the more painfully obvious SNAFU's at bay (cough^locales^cough). Maybe set a Wiki up off shore on someones account. I'm sure some of you spend a lot of time answering (well...those others of you) the same or similar questions and a wiki is a great way to get you own answers, and a hell of a lot better then drudging through a forum.

*scratches head*

But I've got to wonder at this point if there a active development team or just the jolly flame squadron?

Anyhow I'm two Ambien down and if I wait any longer my typing will actually begin to more closely resemble drool.

Anyone want to fight about that?

You're probably a nice person. But your entry into this forum seems a bit pretentious. To my ears, your posts seem to talk down to everyone connected with the project. You don't seem to be aware of who "the devs" are, or what resources are available. You allude to your skills as a developer. If you're truly willing (and able) to help (and can overcome your entry into the forum) you will be very welcome.

Calling the software "alpha" when in fact it IS alpha (R5A16) makes me wonder if you read anything at all about KnoppMyth. Your fixation on locale seems strange when it isn't even on the top 100 list of things people complain about w/respect to Myth or KnoppMyth. (Yes, there are distinctions between the two, and it is very important to know them.)

Oh heck, let's just wipe the slate clean and start over.

Nice to meet you, zgoss, hope you like the distro. Feel free to post questions or any tips you may have. There's a wiki available at http://knoppmythwiki.org, and don't forget the mailing lists for MythTv on Gossamer: http://gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/ This distro is developed and maintained by Cecil (aka cesman) and Dale. Its focus is to be a "set top box" appliance rather than a "computer that also records TV." Be careful about posting in forum as cesman doesn't like it when people post in the wrong area.

Welcome to the group.

Um, what do you mean by "all those extra menu items?"

Do you mean the Phone, Video, Weather & KnoppMyth buttons?

If so, what do you propose?

P.S. DVD playback does work out of the box, but not for Hollywood DVDs. Ones that I have burnt on my Mac or a hardware DVD recorder play back just fine in KnoppMyth.

Thanks Liv2Cod. I probably do come off as an asshole sometimes. I'll stick around and find out if and in which ways I can help.

I'll start by reading that wiki. Can things like pineapple be discussed in the wiki?

On a slightly personal note my first post-knoppmyth installation project will be trying to get my Ahanix D.vine 5 vfd working, hopefully with LCDproc. If its not documented I'll keep notes and put something up.

If I understand you correctly the locales issue is a carry over from Knoppix?

Well I'm not as strict on the wiki as cesman is on the forums, we still have the right to free speach in the US well to some extent anyways. as long as not infringing code is posted the I'll let most things stay. however if I get a letter I will take down any offending material as I do not have legal funds.
