HI
I know you must bre sick of this question but my eye are sore from reading and looking
I have a Pixelview PlayTv Pro and I can't get the tuner to work.
BT878P+ FM.RC rev 9K Phillips tuner
I am in New Zealand
I have tried a range of diff card setting for bttv I found 70 worked and auto selected the tuner (to the setting 25) i beleive mine should be 5
I have don't set the card manually it is not detected
When I run scantv it finds no stations and MythTV jusy shows static.
If anyon could point me in the wright direction that would be great
Linux Newbie[/b]

Same Problen here to mate.
Got an PV-BT878P+

I've tried card=70 and no tuner (so it autodetects 25).
I've manually set tuner=0 (1,3,5,7,14,16,18,19,20,22,23,24,25,26)
No luck yet :-(

Going to try other card types.

It would be so nice if someone with the skills could write a "bttv configure" script that steps through the cards and you press Y on the one that gives you a picture.

scantv -a (will scan all frequencies not just the set channels) :-)

I had one of these cards when I first started playing with Knoppmyth and this is what I used here in Australia:

Code:
bttv card=37 tuner=5

Hope this helps.

Just be sure it is scanning with the correct (Australian) frequency table.

Works and tunes Australian Channels in Windows

The tuner on mine is stamped TPI8PSB12P
Which the closet one I can find in the bttv list is
tuner=29 LG PAL_BG (TPI8PSB11D)

My card is a PV-BT878P+ (Rev.9D)

For testing I have been using xawtv and selecting PAL & Australia.
I've even tried with the -a switch at scan all frequencies, still no luck.

I found something in Google which they mention something about forcing bttv to look at a different memory address for the card/tuner???

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv
# Prolink Pixelview PlayTV MPEG-2 (vendor: Gammagraphx, Inc.)
options bttv card=72 tuner=43 radio=1
options tuner force=0,0x61 ignore=0,0x60

I tried the above (as it is) and it crashed MythTV  , yet to try other combination. By the way what is the use of the information obtained from BtSpy?

Sorry for bugging everyone trying to get this old BT878 card running but I just bought a data projector for my KnoppMyth theatre room :D
I'll eventually buy a better tuner card

That appears to be the exact same card that I started out with (My tier 2 post: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1740 ). It was marketed in australia as a TV EXCEL

Image

It worked for me with:
Code:
options bttv card=70 radio=1 pll=1
options tuner type=5

Greg you have a picture of my card
I must be going nuts but
I change the bttv0 file in etc/mythtv/modules
run update-modules
reboot

Setting for the card do not change :x dmesg still reports card=0,autodectect
I even threw the
options bttv card=70 radio=1 pll=1
options tuner type=5
into the etc/mythtv/modules.conf (which gets blown away whenever you update-modules).

Sorry I feel like such a n00b at the moment, I probably should pick one distro and learn it and stick to it (but so far KnoppMyth rocks 8) ).

You should modify the bttv file not bttv0.

I'd stick with knoppmyth if I were you. I would also get a DVB card to replace the Pixelview if I was you.

Hang on. I was You. And I did stick with Knoppmyth and I did replace my pixelview.

Must be sage advice.

cesman my bttv file has
alias char-major-81 videodev

my bbtv0 has
alias char-major-81-0 bttv

What I find really curious is I was messing with those settings before and the changes were taking effect, I got different results in dmesg.
This has only occured since I formatted and started from scratch again.
Still having fun though, yes Greg I'll take your advice and get a better tuner card right after I recover from the financial hemorage of buying a data project :D

/etc/mythtv/modules/bttv

Code:
alias char-major-81   videodev
alias char-major-81-0   bttv
options bttv card=70 tuner=29 pll=1

reboot
Still no joy

update-modules then reboot
Still no joy

BTW got sick of scrolling through the DMESG newbies use this
Code:
dmesg |grep bttv

I'm using KnoppMyth R5 Alpha 30.1

Yes, reports as GENERIC. Which is odd because a couple of days ago I was happily changing card types and tuners trying to find a combination that works. Which is what has me so stumped. :x
I'm going to reformat tonight and have a clean fresh start.
Started working on my bracket for my data projector this afternoon :D I'll post a photo of my KnoppMyth Theatre Room when I'm done.
What's worse is I have several people at work watching and waiting to see how this turns out - cause I've raved about KnoppMyth and its features.

Well, let us know if you still have trouble with a clean install. Setting the card/tuner parameters should not be a problem.

Have ordered DVB-T300 card :D
Going to have a sacraficial burning of the old tuner card in the back yard  Unless someone can come up with a more creative/destructive method of disposal
Now there's a challenge.

PS Tried several other distros inc Puppy, Damn Small Linux, Ark, RedHat, Ubuntu, already forgotten the names of the others.
All have the same problem with Brook Tree (BT-XXX) based cards

Plug and Play (Plug and Prayer) was really a dream
Don't know about anyone else but I'm embaressed that the device works in Windows and not in Linux
