I need a linux compatible Modem.

Apparently, the two modems I have are WinModems (one a LT
WinModem, other not sure). Please correct me if I am wrong, but WinModems will not work with Linux/KnoppMyth.

Can someone please tell me what Modem will work with too much trouble?
I would prefer a internal PCI Modem, but from what I read, an external modem is much easier to get working. The cheaper the better!

Any information on would be appreciated.
I have searched and read a lot of posting on this website.

there are some lt winmodem drivers out there for linux, though I haven't tried to use them or even seen anything about them in a long time, as I see very few people using modems anymore.

I'll bet with a little begging and grovelling you can get an external modem for free or at least all most I just picked up an external 33K for $5 a few days ago. Suggest asking around, maybe check with a few friends.

BTW - I always recommend external modems anyway.

When I lived in Maryland I had two get hit and killed by lightening coming in on the phone lines without doing any obvious damage to the computer itself. The second time the modem was even behind a phone line surge surpressor. I also replaced several surge suppressors that gave their all to protect the hardware... Say about 1 every two years...

What else can you expect in a place where any tree over 50 feet tall has a dead top from being struck by lightening repeatedly... I even had a buddy down there who got struck through an open window while he was working at his computer... He got off easy, the computer cooked and he didn't.

Been there done that. Pax River in the 70's. First program I actually wrote using punch cards and had a modified IBM Selectric as a terminal.

How about the identical weather forecasts for every day from late May through early September "50% chance of afternoon thunderstorms".

How about the way any night between the first thaw and the first killing frost sounded like the sound track for a bad jungle movie. With crickets, frogs, cicadias, birds, ... and who knows what all else, making so much noise it could be hard to make yourself heard over it.

How if the weather forecast contained a 20% chance for a 1/4" of snow the grocery stores would be stripped of bread, milk and toilet paper, and every driver in the state utterly lost their minds... We're not talking about when it actually snowed, just when it was forecast within 24-48 hours. (As one weather forecaster put it, "There's a chance we'll get a trace of snow tomorrow evening, so why not save time and abandon your car now.)

It was an interesting tour to say the least, best part was as crew on the P3's. Key West had much bigger bugs though, about the size of a sparrow. Would knock the lamps out of street lights! Ya, I am over 21. Having originated in Minnesota, the MD "snow storms" always got to me.

Wonder how lcp676 made out with the modem? I have a RadioShack 300 baud for the Color Computer, manual answer Available for postage only.

That is ok as it was toward the end of the coco era. However, I still like my Stearman dos It was a series of patches that made it a bunch more friendly. Autoboot from 40 track double sided 5 1/4 floppies, parallel printer, serial at 115.2 and I modified mine even more to include speech. (SSI263 Would not sing Daisy)

Fond memories but I like my KnoppMyth better! Absolutely great but only a couple of little things left that I would like to make work.
