Darn it!!!!! Thanks Xsecrets. I saw those instructions previously but i totally forgot about them. I was totally stuck thinking that it was because of the new silver remote. Thanks again - worked like a charm.

I have tried copying the files that Russ supplied in but I still can't get my silver A415 HPG remote to work. Is there anything else i should try? I'm running R5A12. Thanks.

I solved my problem; Silver Remote not working after upgrading to A15.1, here is what I found.
There were two different "lircd" files in two different areas
1- /usr/local/sbin/lircd # dated April 12
2- /usr/sbib/lircd # dated March 28

I followed all the directions using and had bootmisc.sh pointing to
#1 above, could not get it to work
changed the reference to /usr/sbin/lircd. Now it works.

My question is why two versions in two locations, and why the older one works. Should I copy the version from /usr/sbin/lircd to /usr/local/sbin/lircd or just let it pont to the differnt location.

Another issue i noticed, is to be careful in setting up your silver remote to be sure the that the lircrc and the lircd.conf button names match...

in lircrc
button = buttonName

lines should be the same name as they are in lircd.conf file for the silver remote.

Just realized that I have one of each type of remote older grey is set up and working fine. I would like to have my new one work also and have it in the bedroom. I already have ir forwarding from the bedroom to the L/R wired in and it has worked well for years. I don't really want to spend the money on a separate front end for the bedroom but I would like access to myth.

I have the grey remote working 2 250 cards and irblaster set up to control my digital box.

So is it possible? What would I need to do?

Craig

If you are using one of the R5 alphas then lircd doesn't load on boot by default. there are several ways to make this happen which are covered all over the forums and in the R5A? installation docs.

Can you give a link to these installation docs? I've searched the wiki and the forums for nearly an hour and honestly can't figure out how to get this working. (I just did a clean install of R5A16, and I have a Hauppauge PVR-250 with the grey remote. I know I chose i686 during installation, but I couldn't read the options on the TV screen, so I doubt I make any special selection to install lirc.)

I've tried editing /etc/lircd.conf, and it doesn't even exist...so I know I'm missing something. Any links/suggestions would be appreciated...thanks!

on R5A16 as root run

update-rc.d lirc defaults

then reboot

This config works great for me, except for the Mute button. Any ideas on why it wouldn't work? I'm sure I'm just missing a mapping somewhere. I'm running R5A16 with the lircd.conf and lircrc files mentioned in this thread.

Do a search for posts by me that mention lirc or mute. I'm pretty sure I posted my config file once upon a time and it has the mute button and several others mapped.

I did the -update-rc.d lirc defaults- and it said that system startup links already exist for this... but it still doesn't work? And I looked and there's no /home/mythtv/.mythtv.lircrc directory?

any ideas? :?:

lircrc is not a directory it's a file, and it's here /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc and a symlink here /home/mythtv/.lircrc note .files do not show up in a normal ls they are "hidden" unless you use the -a switch.

What specifically do you add to your bootmisc.sh in order to start lirc?
Like I said I'm a noob...
But I found the file... :)

ok I've already stated this in this tread, but I'll state it again. You should not have to put anything in bootmisc to get lirc to load on boot. run

update-rc.d lirc defaults

as root then reboot that should take care of loading lirc on boot.
