Hi everyone long time lurker first time poster...

I have a system running SUSE9.3 and it just sort of works...

Decided to go to MYTHTV. Well I have had nightmares trying to get gentoo up. But there is this knoppmyth that is supposed to take care of it all.

Well to make a long story short I have installed it several times and it just never works. I mean I got some of it running under Fedora but it worked for one reboot.

Well I want to make a MYTH box. Problem is when I install Knoppmyth it misses my network card. Well without the netowrk connection nothing works...

here is the hardware
Pentium 3HT
1 Gig of Ram
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
160G Seagate HD
pcHDTV 3000 HD card
Nividia FX5200 Graphics card

I would like to use the DVI out to my HDTV and have another output for SDTV. IS this doable?

But the main one. How do I get this config to recognize my LAN controller wich is on my motherbord. I think that is really the first step I have to have...

Thanks for any help.

(Its been 2 weeks of trying and using different distros trying.)

You can always throw in a cheap NIC which is know to work well with Linux, like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833127107 I know that CompUSA also carries these for slightly more $ since that's where I got one for my dad's Linux box.

I know it's not an elegant solution, but how much is your time worth? Right now you're probably waiting for the kernel drivers and netcardconfig to catch up with your hardware. If you've already blown two weeks on this problem, $11is nothing. I paid the brick & mortar premium on the one for my dad's machine almost gleefully, since that and fixing the PCI BusID in his XF86Config eliminated 95% of his Linux problems and the resulting (frustrating) tech support phone cals and email. Besides it's always good to have a spare NIC and video card around when you're building systems... ;-)

Believe me I know about the time thing. I say that all the time at work.

This NIC works with SUSE/Gentoo/Fedora/Debian. Its jsut this Knoppmyth thats killing me.

Noone has found a solution for this yet? This MB is like 2 years old.
Checking out this website made me hope it would be such an issue...

this config is real close to mine...

So go far enough through the install for one of those to find out which driver it's using and then use that in /etc/modules or whereever... You may need to back port the driver from a newer kernel or something like that, but it sounds like you've got the needed experience. Also, have you checked through the Tier 1 and Tier 2 hardware recommendations for that board? At the very least you should be able to find one with the same chipset...

What version are you using? In R5A16 at least it's called "netcardconfig".

OBTW - Given the Intel chipset on the MoBo you could have also checked the Intel website, they're actually pretty good about driver support.

DHCP changed your address which is why you're having connection FE/BE problems. A search of the forum using the error message it produces will turn up the answers on that one. Usually it's just a matter of setting 'em to 127.0.0.1 (loopback).

Still the most likely cause, there are a complex of similar errors where one component thinks another is at the old address, FE to BE, BE to DB, ... You may just need to approach it differently. Try running mythtv-setup and wiping all the old settings...

It just gets worse.

If I try to strat the front end I get the setup for a different theme and then it ends right at finish and takes me back to xterm.

If I whipe card settings then I get the default theme but nothing works but mythweather.

So once I reinstalll all this for the umptentht time I should:
<ctrl> <alt> <F2>
modprobe sk98lin
netcardconfig

Then What from right there... I am still in terminal and cant get out and cant alt tab to program?

I guess using SUSE for these months was a little too easy. But I was using it as a desktop only...

if you use ctrl+alt+F? to get to a console then alt+F7 will get you back to your X session.

also if you want a module loaded every boot then put it in the /etc/modules file.
