Hi,

Since you are thinking of putting in an ati card, may want to reconsider the Abit. I have been dinkin' with my ASRock for weeks and it has been a task. I only use it cause it is a 2.2ghtz so it can screw up quicker. I have yet to get tv on it partially because of the physical restrictions mentioned earlier.

you don't need a path. you just put ati or radeon (yes there are two different dirvers and I'm not sure which one does what just try each in turn) where you currently see vesa in the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file.

Thanks for that xsecrets ...
Big progress to report ! I tried the change above and it made a massive difference - choppiness is pretty much gone.

and I was beginning to lose hope - this baby might still fly :-)

Next hurdles :

1) Get tv listings working ... ive added the xmltv ids for each channel scanned and its still not picking it up ... but i hope i can google my way out of that!

2) get the remote control working - not even looked at this yet!

3) get wireless networking working ... i dont think i could face the pain of trying to get a microsoft mn710 wireless usb adapter

its probably bad form to reply to your own listings but I will anyway in case it helps someone else (yes I did search the forums but did not find this!)

Getting UK tv listings to work after a digital scan on a DVB card

step 1 ) edit each of the channels (in mythtv-setup that is) and add the xmltv id for the channel as found in the file chans.txt created with

uk_grab_tv_rt --list-channels >chans.txt

step 2)
uk_grab_tv_rt --list-channels | grep -i 'channel id' >rt.xmltv

edit out all the channels you dont want
those that remain leave in the format

channel xmltvid

(i.e. remove the chevrons,quotes etc)

this assumes your video source is called rt (change as appropriate if this is not the case)

step 3)
copy rt.xmltv to /home/mythtv/.mythtv/rt.xmltv

step 4)

run
mythfilldatabase --refresh-today
