I have tried various threads and wiki's to get PVR-350 DVB-T to work with VIA EPIA MII but I'm struggling. This thread was the most useful to get where I am now:

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... MythConfig

Forget Tv-Out for now, I just want to see it working on my monitor.

1. When I go to Live TV mode I get one channel working (BBC) but it is black and white, covered in snow and is choppy. The other channels just show static and if I skip through the channels too many times it crashes and I have to reboot to get it working again.

2. I also don't get any text in the channel finder windows... if I do ALT + TAB I can see that the freemono.tff font isn't found (+ maybe more) and it then declares that it won't be loading the OSD (on screen display?).

Am I right in thinking that this guide is not necessary with R5A16 running the 2.6 kernel?

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=DVBHowTo

Would updating ivtv to the latest release help?

I was messing with the below diagnostics because WATCH TV had been giving previous errors such as:

1. Cannot Connect to MasterBackend - Check IP address
2. All Available Inputs are being used for recording
3. Can't Initialise card

Have managed to get fonts working for the OSD:

I had to do:
# cp /usr/share/fonts -rf /usr/local/share/fonts

It makes things a lot clearer, still b&w, snowy and choppy though!

Is there anything else that could need copying over from /usr/share to usr/local/share ???

There has been colour on the tv cant work out why it happens but after a hour output somtimes changes to colour could be /etc/init.d/gdm restart unable to reproduce the results after a reboot..

Wondering if shutdown -h and reboot has a different effects on the hardware

X seems to be displaying ntsc altho intro of tux is colour(maybe pal), untill x starts. this is using knoppmyth R5A16
If I un comment the option in file /etc/mythtv/modules/ivtv
X fails to load and compalins about invalid parms of debug tuner ivtv
and the services fail to start.. So its a CD boot to change ivtv back again...
The tunner is not work well either the picture is scrolling sideways 3 basic colours

parkinpants

dunno if this is right
tveeprom: tuner = Philips FM1216 ME MK3 (idx = 57, type = 3Cool
type is normally a number 38 is your type like mine
this worked for me..
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... stallation
toget ntsc pvr-350 tv-out to work..
the other thing is there a PVR-350 dvb-t (digital video broadcast)
think thats the win nova-t but i could be wrong.

Hi purple processor!

Ok, I've re-installed knoppmyth a few times since I posted this. My current situation is that the OSD for Watch Live TV is black and white on the television, but colour on the monitor. Hue is set to zero, using the XV controls I can set it to 50 but the OSD still looks black and white.

In any case I still cannot tune any channels and have nothing but static / snow. The rest of the frontend is working in colour on the TV perfectly (SVIDEO from motherboard that is).

As for your questions....
Yes, my tuner is a type 38 - the webpage just got confused that it was a smiley face :) And, yes, my card is a PVR 350 DVB-T !

Where do I get all the Frequency IDs' from for DVB in the UK?
I have found this on the Hints/Tips page:
http://www.ethics-gradient.net/myth/mythdvb.html
This looks quite bewildering! Do I need to follow this guide if using R5A16?

I've seen the following guides but they just send me round in circles:

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... stallation
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... MythConfig
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=PalHowTo

Are you saying that you just followed the NTSC 350 guide and got TV-out to work from that on a PAL TV?

Cables & Connections
---------------------------
If I look at my instruction manual for the PVR350 I cannot see that I have any outputs other than SVIDEO. However If I plug a composite plug into the PVR card and the other end (SCART) into my TV I can get a flash of green on my TV when it boots up. Does this mean that I do have composite-out despite the labels on the card itself and the instructions?
Do I need to specify the method of TV Out in the XF86 COnfig file for the 350? Given that I currently have it connected to TV using SVIDEO out from the VIA motherboard how the hell do I move to PVR350 tv out?

As I understand it, I can't get X or the mythtv frontend using the PVR 350 TV out. If this is correct then I would have to have AV1/SV1 on my tv connected to the motherboard, and then use AV2 whilst watching Live TV (via the PVR 350 TV out). Thus 2 cables, one for regular Mythtv use, one for Watching TV. Is that correct or have I lost the plot?

XF86Config-4
---------------
Anyway, here's my current 'in progress' XF86Config-4 file as I make the transition to TV Out on the 350 card.

Yes, my tuner is a type 38 - the webpage just got confused that it was a smiley face :) And, yes, my card is a PVR 350 DVB-T !

I'm sorry, I've got to query this, as this is the first time I've heard of a DVB version of the 350.

If your card is this one: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/products/data_pvr350.html
Then it's not DVB.

If it's not that one, can you show us a link to the card you own?

hmm,

I must be going insane.

I've been convinced for a long time that I had a DVB-T card.
I distinctly remember checkin that DVB-T was what I wanted rather than the DVB-C versions. I also remember paying £110 for it only 4 months ago. I'm sure the box it came in had all the freeview channels listed on it.

However,
The link you sent me sure looks like my card.
My receipt from DABS just says PVR-350.
The instruction manual makes no mention of freeview or digital

So you're right! It is an analogue tuner.

... and I have truly lost the plot!

Now I must decide whether/which DVB-T card to get!

Is it wise to get a Nova-T on a VIA MII system? The specifications say it requires a 1.2ghz Pentium 4. I guess I can ignore the Pentium part but still I only just meet the minimum requirements. Does a digital tv card still need the magical "on-board mpeg decoder" like on the PVR 350? Will I have problems with overheating in a mini-itx system? What about performance in general?

I see there is no TV-out on the Nova-T so I guess I just use the one on my motherboard.

IIRC DVB signals are transmitted in MPEG, so the card just takes those and dumps them to disk.

So if you're getting good playback of your current MPEG2 streams and you keep the bitrate the same, you should be ok. (Probably)

The only TV card with video output is the PVR-350. Most people us that, or a low end Geforce card (MX, 5200, 6200, etc) with TV out, also I'm sure there are some people using the TV output from the Via ITX boards.

One thing to remember is that you only need one TV out for your Myth box, so once you have one card with a TV output, you don't need any more. And if you keep the 350, you can use that one or the Via one, you don't need both.*

*Unless you want to use two displays, which will be a rather dificult thing to setup accross two different video cards.

The epia boards do fine on mpeg2 as long as it's standard def and not high def. the xvmc support on the epia boards is actually quite good, but it will not work on high def.
