Hi,

I've just managed to set up a Nova-T on a VIA EPIA MII. LiveTv is good on some channels but 'motion' is still jerky (e.g. the scrolling news bars on SKY NEWS). On most channels however the performance is very choppy. However I'm using a rooftop aerial and I'm pretty sure the signal is strong in my area.

I can only watch Tv if I disable the VIA HW XvMC decoder. When enabled I get "failed to initialise video". To what extent will this solve my performance problems?

In order to get the Tv card working I moved to a 6.13 kernel. Is there anything in the kernel configuration that I might have ballsed up? Or did I need to apply a patch for XVMC?

My XF86Config-4 file specifies the VIA driver under "Device" and specifies the CLE266 chipser and VideoRam at 32MB so I think that is all in order.

When I installed Knoppmyth I chose the i586 modules rather than i686. Was that A) the right move, or B) the cause of all my problems?

When I look in the kernel configuration I don't appear to have installed the module for the VIA C3-2 (nehemiah) processor. The VIA website says my board is a C3 but not C3-2. Is the C3-2 for other epia boards?

Another thing gone wrong since upgrading the kernel is the loss of my PCMCIA wireless card. Ndiswrapper ain't playing ball anymore.

Any help appreciated as always.

The issue is with the kernel. You need to recompile the drm and via modules. Get them from the DRM cvs...

Ok, thanks for isolating the problem

So, would I have been better just patching the kernel rather than moving to 6.13? Or would I still have run into this problem?

In any case, I'm not sure what I'm doing here.... I take it I need to look into this.... ???

... I'm not as clever as you guys.. :(

so, you said to get them from the drm cvs...
did you mean to say dri cvs? can't find drm anywhere...

In any case, CVS requires me to have internet access on my mythbox right? Or can I use putty to ssh from a Windows PC with internet? If so, how?

Reason being that I currently have no wireless card; the kernel recompile to blame again. I reinstalled ndiswrapper to make some progress, and re-installed the driver but now it hangs when I run: 'ifconfig wlan0 up'

Where can I get the modules from outside of the CVS?....

Is this what I need for the DRM kernel module?

What about the VIA modules? All I could find was this....

- cheers

I have used turtle cvs to check out a number of projects from cvs onto my windows box. Be caerful to select unix line feeds or it will create files with dos style line feeds which will play havock when you move the stuff across to your myth box.

well,

I managed to download and install DRI - which I believe contains the VIA and DRM modules.

Code:
# cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@dri.freedesktop.org:/cvs/dri login

Hit Enter for the password.

Code:
# cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@dri.freedesktop.org:/cvs/dri co drm

Code:
# ./something or other
# ./configure --- etc (as per the README file)
# make
# make install

I then enabled the HW XVMC VIA VLA encoding in the PLAYBACK settings... and voila I no longer get the "failed to initialise XVMC" error screen.

Instead I get TV without sound!

Also I do not notice ANY improvement in performance. I was guessing from the description of "motion compensation" that it would make fast moving TV - i.e. football matches (thats soccer for the yanks) play a bit smoother. Even the scrolling bars on SKY NEWS are still jerky.

(P.S. the problem with choppy playback was solved - caused by incorrect transport settings)[/code]

Little Help?
