I'm having a hard time getting sound to work. It worked once, but is gone now. One things that makes things worse is that I'm deaf (so I wouldn't need the sound, but the rest of the family wants it:-) ).

From what I can see KnoppMyth is setting up ALSA, but lsmod does not show any alsa modules, but some OSS-modules (which I got the impression is another sound system)? Is ALSA using OSS drivers or what?

Note that I'm using DVB-T so I'm only interested in audio out, no need for recording audio.

Has anyone got this working and can give some hints?

Will the sound stay on if I switch to a virtual console to mess with mixer and stuff? (Just so I know if I have to switch back to MythTV or not when trying things.)

ALSA has an OSS compatibility layer. Yes, the sound will stay on if you switch to a vterm.

Ok, so where do I start my fault finding?

Logs to see if the right drivers are loaded? (Which drivers ARE the right ones? The sound card is AC'97.)

Is it with alsamixer I adjust the volume? Ther are A LOT of sliders and settings there...

I read somewhere that for ALSA you should tell myhth to use ALSA:default or something similar, but I got an error it couldn't locate the device. Is this because ALSA uses the OSS-compatible layer?

Some more searching revealed the error. In my effort to get things working I "turned everything on". From some other thread I found out that some IEC 958 thing should be turnet off, and voila!

(Now all that remains is to get that Nova-T remote to work...)
