I am really considering upgrading to a system capable of playing back HD content, so upgrading to a 3.0+ ghz P4 may be my only option. I however can not find reference here about the number of PCI slots. It is very hard to find a new motherboard that supports PCI Express for video, but still has 5 PCI slots for PVR and HD cards. Any recommendations from those of you who have a similar setup. I would prefer nvidia chip-set since that is what I have had the best luck with over the last several years. Going through some the posts here looking up the boards, most only have 3 PCI slots.

Two questions:
Why does it have to be a PCI-Express board?
Why does it have to be a P4?

The main reason for the P4 is the tier 1 HD support. There has been a lot more success in getting a system setup to playback live HD content using a P4 3+ GHz processor than anything else. I have used AMD for years, but hitting that HD mark may mean it is time to switch back.

I guess it does not have to be pci express, but it does have to support hyper threading. Again, I am going for performance here. I want to watch live HD and record HD, and or PVR-250 content at the same time. I know Xsecrets does this but I think his board only has three slots from what I was able to gather. Many boards only have 2 and 1 express.

well actually the AS8 is 4pci 1agp it does require a full atx case, and it unfortunately doesn't have onboard video, but does have fully supported onboard spdif sound and lan, and firewire which works wonderfully with my moto 6200.

It works very well with myth, but it's an Athlon XP potherboard, so a bit below the spec requested.
