I have problem that MythTv plays live tv for 1 sec and than freezes.
However mplayer plays live tv (/dev/video1) video normaly without any problems.

After a few sec more, myth tv returns to main screen.

Any ideas what I migth try to fix this ?

Thanks for your help !

Since you have provided no information about your situation (new mythtv install? new hardware? what hardware? etc), all I can give you is this:

Thanks, but I know how to use google :) :)

I have PVR-150, BT-878 card (878 works for live tv).
PVR-150 works fine in mplayer so it is not driver or hw problem since only mythtv is not displaying live tv stream.

CPU Celeron 1 ghz, i810 gfx card on mbo, 384mb of ram.

I don't see point in posting large dmesg texts since hardware setup looks ok (otherwise mplayer would not show live tv stream).

I'm using ivtv 0.4.0 but it works identically in 0.3.8 and 0.3.9 so i don't think this is ivtv problem.

Last but not least, I'm new to linux world and it took me a 2 months in my spare time to learn a bit of perl to write xmltv graber for tv program and install and configure knoppmyth.

What do you mean the PVR-150 works fine in mplayer? If you are using mplayer then you are using the graphics from your mobo, not the capture card. If you want to check the 150, try recording a program and then viewing it afterward. Also, have you checked the logs after the live tv stream freezes on you?

Log info (from the wiki, http://www.knoppmythwiki.org):
Most of the log files can be found in or under the /var/log directory.
You will need to be root to view most of them.
particularly /var/log/messages /var/log/syslog /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log

For frontend issues you may also find the information in the file /home/mythtv/.xsession-errors helpful.

Hi !

kmkittre thanks for pointers to mythbackend.log, I have found there
Code:
2005-10-12 00:03:16.216 mythbackend: MythBackend started as master server
2005-10-12 00:03:16.307 Channel(/dev/video1)::Open(): Can't open video device, e
rror "No such device"
2005-10-12 00:03:16.338 Channel(/dev/video1)::Open(): Can't open video device, e
rror "No such device"
2005-10-12 00:03:16.344 ChannelBase: Could not find input: Tuner 1 on card when
setting channel E9

This way I have discovered by inspecting /etc/rc5.d/ that mythbackend is started before ivtv detection of video device is done.
I have simply modified boot order in rc5.d so ivtv is detected before mythbackend is loaded.

Now note to all of you having problems with PVR cards not being able to tune in (noise on screen) or you don't have sound check boot order in /etc/rcS.d/ and /etc/rc5.d/

Since I'm new to linux quick question ...
Is there a tool that is desinged to modify boot order in /etc/rcX.d to to add and remove items from it ?

Thanks :)
