And speaking of which---do BOTH machines need a /cache and ringbuffer? What if one machine does nothing but record (w/some 250's) and is the MBE, and the other machine is both the frontend -and- an SBE (w/at least one 350 and maybe another 250). Do they -both- need ringbuffers? Or can I make that partition small on one of them? If so, which one?

I once had the Problem, that i was watching LiveTV and after a Time Screen was going black.

Problem was the cooling.
Be sure, that Tuner and GraphicCard are beiing cooled enough.

I may be having this lockup problem with my PVR350..

Following the wiki script at http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... stallation Step #7. "Use pvr-350 hardware". When I have that checkbox "on".. Live TV will play for around 5 minutes and I'll get a screen freeze (actually, it might be a system freeze.. since, sometimes, I can't even telnet into the box!)

My Live TV buffer is set at 16 GB, with Minimum Free is set at 80 MB. (I have my /cache partition setup to 20 GB)

If this is a problem with the "Use pvr-350 hardware" = off .. I just haven't hit it yet.. (I can't remember any time that I've done Live TV for more than an hour.)

In "ideal" conditions, I would rather use the pvr350 hardware .. On the up-side: 1. conveniently, sound is also directed at the TV set via the pvr350. 2. frees up the cpu for other activities. .. But there are a couple of down sides.. 1. myth-music & DVD Playback requires sound card & speakers. 2. Myth Program edits (building a cutlist) is much more responsive on my hardware with the pvr350 hardware off.. there's some serious "lag" with pvr350 hardware is set "on".

Oh, sadly, "jakep_82"'s reference to thread at http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6559 is dead!

No.. but I don't currently see this problem, as I am using the "N" setting for "Use pvr-350 hardware". With the other "trade off" issues, I'm content to continue with this configuration. Either way.. I'm using the TV-out on the PVR-350, so I can effectively physically remove the computer monitor from the scene.

To date, I rarely use the "watch TV" mode. although, with the coming "record while watching live TV" feature in the newer version MythTV, this will likely change!

I am considering reducing my /cache partition size for storing recorded programs.

Incidently, I started using a USB drive for my "tempDVD" folder for working with nuvexport. There's a great performance boost with this configuration, since the "read" (i.e. the recorded programs) and the "write" (i.e. the storage pf the transcoded mpg data files for subsequent DVD burn) are on separate I/O channels. I can also use up more of my main data storage area without worries of running out of space needed for the DVD burn processing!
