this is the only MAJOR problem i have that this form dosent have an answer to.

i have a direct tv reciever and i know about the LOW SPEED DATA PORT but i dont know how to use mythtv to control it..... nor do i know where to sign up to get the direct tv (local and country wide) channel listings....

so if anybody knows of how to configure knopmyth to use this... and how i set it up to get the direct tv listings.

i have read like 20 different threads..... BUT they dont say anything about the software end of this... just the cabe..... SO IF ANYBODY has any info....

btw.... i have an audio problem..... live TV with NO audio (yes i checked the audio works.... i played a DVD and it worked.....) i have a generic brooktree bt878a card (sold as a pinnacle systems PCTV RAVE cade)and its taking the video input through the SVIDEO....but i just needa get tyhe cabel (for the direct tv unit) to work... and audio would help... but i am looking around the forms for the audio problem

msi (socket a mobo) (uses a VIA chipset)
athalon 1800+ (througherbred (no i cant spell it)
and 256 ram (ya i know i need more.....im gona get it)
a nvidia 5700 LE optima (128 ram)
and a DWL-122 (usb wifi)

and a bunch of other stuff..... but it isint important

A script used to exist for adding DirecTV pay-per-view information into the database. As of 2005-04-01 this script no longer appears to work, and this section will be removed from the HOWTO with the release of 0.19.

i dontr want the ppv..... just the local channels and those that i get monthly (not ppv)


that still dosent answer my question... HOW DO I SET UP MYTHTV TO USE THE SERIAL CABLE TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL

or does it send the data out the serial cable anyway?

11.5 Adding support for an external tuner

MythTV supports changing the channel on an external tuner. If you have an external tuner, such as a DirecTV or digital cable set top box, you should add /usr/local/bin/changechannel to your Input Connections in the mythbackend configuration GUI.

The changechannel program is not supplied with MythTV, so this is going to be dependent on what sort of external tuner you have. Example scripts for Sony and RCA receivers can be obtained from http://tarek.2y.net/myth/. YAY i fixes the audio.... just needed 2 fiddle around with the cabels
so audio is all good now....
