Hi all.

This was more of a rebuild than an upgrade. My old system (Biostar M7VIG400 and Sempron 2200+) had a cpu fan failure and evidently cooked itself, so it seemed like the right time to switch to a non-VIA mobo. Arrival of R5A22 was just convenient timing. The motherboard, cpu and video card are upgrades. Remaining hardware was salvaged from the previous system:

Thank you, cesman for the smoothest installation yet. Installed R5A22 Friday 10/21 and all the basics seem to work right out of the gate:
- TV viewing, recording and playback.
- Hauppauge 250 grey remote works automagically.
- Scheduling recordings from MythWeb works fine.

Ordinary tweaks:
- Edit XF86Config-4 for NVidia Composite TV-out (0.7 Overscan) as per sample.
- Enabled Samba as per knoppmythwiki.
- NFS reported no /etc/exports file, therefore no exports. Corrected as per NFSHowTo in knoppmythwiki.

A few "gotchas" :
- Viewing recordings from MythWeb "Recorded Programs" page doesn't work (same as my old R5A16). Probably a symlink issue addressed somewhere here or in the wiki.
- Mythburn DVD seems to proceed successfully to a point then reports an ffmpeg error:

Time for an update:
When in doubt re-install, search the forum, search the wiki and try to read the shell scripts. Then make sure you have all the required software. Then make sure all the file permissions are correct, no matter what the install script displayed.
This was pretty haphazard. After an update to /etc/apt/sources.list, some apt-get installs, some make installs and permission changes, Mythburn seems to be working on r5a22. Nuvexport remains a challenge. I hope to re-trace my steps and take better notes in the future but here's my progress to date:

    I figured I might have clobbered something with a bad response during install, but the basics seemed to be working and I had a few programs recorded, so I backed up knoppmyth and re-installed via auto-upgrade. Set up XF86Config-4 for tv-out. Success. Basics still seemed to work.

    Forum searches pointed me toward recent postings to the "Update mythburn script" thread here in the forum. Not exactly my issues but helpful. Other postings pointed to "NuvexportMPEGcut" and "MythTVBurn_Scripts_HowTo" on the wiki.

    Installed lvemux and then avidemux as per the "NuvexportMPEGcut" howto (http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=MythTVBurn_Scripts_HowTo). Installed lvemux with make install. Tried apt-get install avidemux as suggested by tjc's comment in the howto. Discovered that the recommended change to /etc/apt/sources.list no longer correct. After browsing the ftp site I tried adding this line:
    deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sarge main
    apt-get install avidemux now seems to work.

    I tried to validate lvemux and avidemux by running nuv2disc's systemcheck.sh script (successful). Since I may also want to burn a dvd from the frontend, I ran nuv2disc-install.sh. Script reported no errors. Will try it later. Back to Mythburn...

    Tried to follow MythTVBurn_Scripts_HowTo on the KnoppMyth Wiki. Don't know if the change to sources.list had any impact here. Uncertain, though it seems to have done no harm. I did all the apt-gets as listed. Ran the install script. Console reported success, including file permission changes (trust but verify - see below).

    Try "Burn DVD" from Mythweb. Choose program, options. Push the button... Nothing!
    Mythburn.log is from the last attempt, hours ago. Permission problem? Looks like the script lied to me or I broke something. Fix it:
    chown -R www-data:www-data /myth/mythburn/temp
    Add www-data to groups mythtv and cdrom.
    Add mythtv to group www-data.

    Read the mythburn scripts one more time. A comment in mythtvburn.sh says we need perl, dvdauthor, spumux, mpeg2desc, mplex, convert. Try apt-get install on all of them just to be sure. Only dvdauthor got upgraded.

    Try "Burn DVD" from Mythweb. Choose program, options. Push the button...
    Read the log over the web until we get a php error:

    Hmmm... this is different. We seem to have created an iso image. Copy to windows and burn with Nero. Success.

    Try "Burn DVD" to a dvd-r for 3 programs. Choose programs, choose options for menu style. Push the button...
    Just tail the log file. Messages look good. DVD plays. More success.


Summary:
Mythburn now seems functional. Nuvexport says dvd format not supported (will try other formats next). "Create DVD" from the frontend still can't seem to transcode, so no files listed for dvd creation (more file permissions?). Check the logs (tomorrow!). To be continued...

I seem to be having the same problem with nuvexport after upgrading to R5A22..

After studying this for a while, I got it working. :D

It seems that R5A22 comes with ffmpeg version 0.4.9-pre1, build 4718 .. after uprading versions it works OK, now.

I used synaptic to perform the upgrade, although, command line apt-get will certainly do the job. (synaptic is not on the knoppmyth installation, but is easily installed using apt-get)

You can use the command:

to get the version information.

The version (ffmpeg) that I upgraded to is:

0.4.9-pre1, build 4747

Would you mind posting your complete /etc/apt/sources.list

I have been trying to get nuvexport to work for a few days now. I run into alot of dependancy problems and figured your list of repos might help me past it.

I really like to be able to get a newer ffmpeg version and also install avidemux from an apt-get line.

Any help would be great, thanks.

was hoping to avoid that but I guess I have no choice. Do you know if there are any tar balls packages around that I could compile. I am really pretty new to linux and I am not sure how to do the cvs thing that is on Mplayers site.

yeah that does not seem to work on r5a26. I guess I could have not done something correct, but I do not think so. Basically It yells at me when I try to install ffmpeg. It has a problem with libavcodeccvs,libfaac0,libavutilcvs. Either can not get them or can not get the version the dependence ffmpeg needs. Just waiting for my compile of ffmpeg to finish up to see if it went ok. I will report back either way. IF good just the compile options I used if not maybe to seek more help

I did an apt-get remove ffmpeg to remove standard ffmpeg setup then I ran the make install from the compiled one. Everything appears to be where it should, but I still can not operate nuvexport correctly.

I am mainly after mpeg2 cut option 10. But still no luck I also tried option 1 but ffmpeg dies early on that option. SO not sure what the issue is. I believe option 10 issue may be with mpeg2cut as when I run nuvexport --debug it will call mpeg2cut with commerical segements to cut out and what the new name should be. Nothing will happen or atleast to my knowledge and it just stops there and I am back at command line, instead of it trying to call lvemux and also avidemux.

One thing of good news that the avidemux2 program works with the updated ffmpeg.

Before it would ask if it should index the .nuv file I wanted to open. I would say yes and it would just sit there. I had to manually kill the task. Now it actually indexes and also seems to do encoding.

So I am atleast happy that I can manually do it with avidemux2. Still need to get a little used to running that program, but seems really easy. What I can not understand is why avidemux2 would work and not the other nuvexport. AS I see it they are both dependant of ffmpeg so why does ffmeg die out of the one and not the other. WEll, I am only going to passively persue this any more as I have gotten most functionality out of this setup, and do not care to go crazy trying to get the last bit perfect.

I did nano /usr/local/bin/mpe2cut

This was after seeing

(this is not my problem xvfb starts fine)

I did not realize mpeg2cut was a script, makes sense though. Anyway I made mpeg2cut have problems up top and then it seems to run avidemux when I run nuvexport otherwise it never gets to run avidemux

Well know it is not avidemux2 problem. I not really sure of all the code in mpeg2cut and how things are supposed to work, but I am almost sure there is something little somewhere that needs to be changed. If I have any free time in the upcoming week I will put more time into this. If anyone running r5a26 has option 10 in nuvexport working please let me know if you did anything specific to get it to work. I am going to start a r5a26 nuvexport thread tomorrow, maybe get more eyes looking at this stuff.

this mpeg2cut is v1.1 what do other people have??

Also when I ran nuvexport --debug when it made the system call was in this form:
mpeg2cut /source "output" length of source in frames then start of cut end of cut.

example below

mpeg2cut /myth/tv1045*** " /myth/newfile.mpg" 8850 -2461 4863-

since It brings me right back to the command line I figure my problem is in there somewhere.

So I ran the system call above when I hit enturn key I am left a line lower at

> "here"
I can still type but nothing reacts I not really sure why it puts me here. I not very suprised that nothing reacts. Not really strong at command line stuff. Anyway does this like a problem to anyone? Maybe the syntax the commercial file is being read?

I have solved my problem of allowing nuvexport to make proper mpeg2cuts. (Option 10)

not sure if my case is unqiue or others may have it. When initially ran nuvexport it would never seem to run avidemux2 at all. It would say now indexing but that went way to quickly to actually happen. To solve this problem I had to modify the mpeg2cut script that is located in /usr/local/bin
about the 27 line down the line that begins with "export" I needed to comment that out.

Now it looks like # export DISPLAY=:13.0

This then brought me to another issue. But avidemux2 atleast was running for me.

It indexed the files fine, but when it came to actually cutting the commericals it had issues. So I manually ran avidemux2 and saved the project then compared that file to the ones generated by mpeg2cut. The problem with the generated .cut file was that the last video segment was way to big so it was trying to cut outside the correct video frames. From this I had to figure out how to correct the problem.

After much time I finally fixed it, or I believe I have. The LastGOP is calculated and passed to the mpeg2cut script. I believe It is cacluated somewhere in nuvexport. There are many nuvexport files so I really do not know where to fix it there.

Basically The "LASTFRAME" of video was getting calulated wrong. The LastGOP was being passed into the scripts was actually the true value for the LASTFRAME.

In the past I believe LASTGOP was just the index value of what GOP frame it was because LASTFRAME was being calculated LASTFRAME=LASTGOP x GOPSPACE where GOPSPACE is either 15 for NTSC or I believe 12 for PAL. That is there is a GOP Frame ever 12 or 15 frames. so GOPSPACE x number of gopframes would yeild an accurate "LASTFRAME".

Also made this next change to mpeg2cut file as well.
SO to manually override this miscalculation I just changed it to
LASTFRAME= $LASTGOP
This is around the 110 line of code the line begins with "LASTFRAME=" already


Now when I run nuvexport with option 10 everything works. REally a simple solution but took long while to actually fix, but I did learn alot.

Now here is my unresolved problems. When I try nuvexport option 1 or nuvexport --mencoder, both seem to terminate saying either ffmpeg or mencoder has terminated early run in debug mode. Being as I can manually convert to xvid in avidemux2 I doubt it is a true problem with ffmpeg or mencoder.

I am thinking that the code that calculates the LASTGOP FRAME is somewhere in nuvexport and that this value is different then the expected value. It would be easy to change if I knew where the value was being calculated. All I would have to do is divide by 15 for NTSC or 12 for pal to return to it a value that would be expect. Obviously I would then need to change to mpeg2cut script back. Anyway if anyone can help it would be great.

Not a big deal since I should be able to write a script easy enough that takes the mpeg2cut video stream then just create a project file for avidemux2 to convert to desired video format. But would like to get things working as they should. It Would help everyone in the long run anyway.
