Have other people gotten xwindows to use the framebuffer on the pvr-350? I edited my XF86Config-4 file but when xwindows loads it gives the following error:

Code:
(EE) FBDEV(0): mmap fbmem: Invalid argument
(EE) FBDEV(0): mapping of video memory failed

Here is the driver section from my XF86Config-4 file
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier  "Hauppauge PVR 350 iTVC15 Framebuffer"
        Driver      "fbdev"

        ### change fb1 to whatever number you got in the previous section
        Option      "fbdev" "/dev/fb0"

        ### change the busid to whatever is reported by lspci. Note that
        ### output of lspci is hex, so add a preceding "0x" to the BusID
        BusID "PCI:01:09:0"
EndSection

I am using the fbdrv module. Should I be? In R5A16 I used the ivtvdev module. But that wouldn't load in R5A22.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I just got it working. Is the xsession driver for the pvr-350 inculded with R5A22? I had to download it. Here is a short walk through that might help other people.

As root do the following commands:
Code:
cd /tmp
wget http://dl.ivtvdriver.org/xdriver/0.10.6/ivtvdev_drv.o.bz2
bunzip2 ivtvdev_drv.o.bz2
install -m 0444 ./ivtvdev_drv.o /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/

Then follow the instructions here starting at step 4.

I didn't go ahead and change the wikipage, because I'm not sure if this problem was unique to my machine or not.

I'm not sure if I have the same problem.

Here's what I've got:
New install of R5V22.
PVR-350

I can view TV on the TV, but the X session is only shown on the monitor. DVD playback is shown on the monitor only. The only thing the TV is used for is TV playback. My PC is slow (P-450, 256MB RAM) and I don't have a Tv-out video card other than the PVR-350, and I just want to use the PVR-350's output due to the old PC Processor.

Is the same issue and I should follow the same instructions? I need to get rid of the monitor and have everything shown on the TV only.

I did have it working some time ago with R5V16 but had to do a re-install (new DVD-ROM and added big hard drive)

Info:

XF86Config-4.pvr350
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier  "Hauppauge PVR 350 iTVC15 Framebuffer"
        Driver      "ivtvdev"

        ### change fb1 to whatever number you got in the previous section
        Option      "fbdev" "/dev/fb0"
    Option      "ivtvdev" "/dev/fb0"

        ### change the busid to whatever is reported by lspci. Note that
        ### output of lspci is hex, so add a preceding "0x" to the BusID
        BusID "PCI:00:16:0"
EndSection

LSPCI:
Code:
0000:00:10.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. WinTV PVR-350
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11
        Memory at 48000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=64M]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2

Code:
root@mythtv:/tmp# cat /var/log/messages | grep "iTVC15 TV out"
Nov  4 08:43:12 mythtv kernel: ivtv0-osd: fb0: iTVC15 TV out frame buffer device
Nov  4 09:57:06 mythtv kernel: ivtv0-osd: fb0: iTVC15 TV out frame buffer device
root@mythtv:/tmp#

Will following these instructions fix my problem? Or, what do I need to do - I'll start a new thread if needed...

yours is the exact same problem I was having until I downloaded this ivtv xdriver as instructed above... R5A22 has the ivtv driver, but not the xdriver.

make sure you pvr350 Xfree config is linked to the default XFreeConfig filename

I'm not quite sure what you mean here. I don't know if R5A22 did the "remove XF86Config-4" thing and link it to "XF86Config-4.pvr350" like the HauppaugeThreeFifty instructions said - it was a pretty automatic install. Is following the instructions ryanpatterson said to do all I need to follow? I don't want to mess what's working now.

I'll try the instructions ryanpatterson said to do and see what happens.[/code]

ryan patterson's directions only get you the xdriver which is missing, you still have to follow the rest of the setup. (i.e. edit the XFreeConfig-4.pvr-350, and copy it to XFreeConfig-4)

Woo Hoo!!

Tv-OUT and X is running on the TV! It works now.

Now, a couple more things...not sure if I need to make a new thread.

No sound playing a DVD in Myth. I think I need a sound card, and the sound from the PVR-350 won't work for DVD's (TV only)? Are there other options? I also SCP'd a file over to mythtv that had sound (MPEG-2) and it plays, but no sound and somewhat jittery video.

Also, not all my buttons are working for the remote. I'll do some search on that as well.

One last thing, not all the channels are viewable - some just snow on Mythtv, but come in fine when tuning through the TV.

You don't have any soundcard in the system? None bult into the mobo? You will need one to get sound from DVDs, mp3s. mplayer and so forth. Then you will want to run the 350's sound out into the line-in on the sound card. So you can hook up the TV to just the line-out of the soundcard.

This thread looks like it's going to help me a lot! unfortunately when i attempt what both the wiki and one other post here says... namely:

Code:
root@mythtv:/tmp# cat /var/log/messages | grep "iTVC15 TV out"

I get nothing. I tried greping for fb0, fb1, fb2, and so on, i tried just 'fb', I even went skimming the file manually. Nothing at all! what is with that!? any suggestions?

well I managed to fix that problem using the script to setup pvr-350 and tv-out in r5a22 (just search, nearly the first result)...

but NOW when i try to 'Watch TV' the harddrive light just goes crazy and then it kicks me back to the frontend after about 4 seconds. Literally my hdd activity light goes NUTS for about 4 seconds... wierd huh?

Yes, there is a sound card on the motherboard, but it is never seen by Knoppmyth, so basically, there is no sound card...
I've found out the PC is too slow to play DVD's from the DVD-RW - it's only a P-450 with 300ish MB RAM. It is not a smooth picture. Is there some tweaking for this? It plays recorded TV just fine - or is it some sort of problem not gotten around other than faster hardware?

I would think that processor would be fast enough but I'm no expert. Make sure you have DMA enabled for your DVD-RW drive. Also what application are you using to play the DVD? Try xine.

Also you could try disabling the pvr-350 output. How well does it play on a monitor using the videocard? The way the pvr-350 output works is very memory intensive I beleave.

TV on the monitor is jerky as well. I was using the default DVD player when KnoppMyth is set up - I don't remember what it was. It was jerky as well, plus my onboard sound card is hosed up, KnoppMyth doesn't see it.

How do I make sure DMA is enabled for the DVD-RW drive? I would guess it's similar to how the LVM instructions show? I don't see where the DVD-ROM is found, though.

Edit /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh
Code:
enable_dma
#
# Save kernel messages in /var/log/dmesg
#
dmesg > /var/log/dmesg

# enable DMA
 /sbin/hdparm -qd1 /dev/hda
 /sbin/hdparm -qd1 /dev/hdb

Thanks to all who contributed here!

This is my second go-around at this.. (I had this working under R5A16.)

1. getting the xdriver wasn't obvious! You guys made that easy.
2. Under R5A16, my frame buffer was under FB1 .. now it's FB0.

Now it's working!
