Hi all.

Theres some new features and bug fixes in Mythburn for A22 release of Knoppmyth. These may work with older versions and other Linux distros but I havent tested it!

Latest features are:

If a DVD is going to be larger than a DVD-R then the MPEG files are automatically requantised (using tcrequant) to make them smaller.
If you dont want the scene menus, build time is now quicker
If you switch off the scene menus then a short intro is given to each recording with date, time and description

Can someone update the wiki on my behalf as I dont have much time at the moment!

To install you need to get the code from CVS, if you are using R5A22 then...

Code:
apt-get install cvs
cd /myth
rm -dfr /myth/mythburn
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/mythburn co -P mythburn
cd /myth/mythburn
./install.sh -d

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who could create a fancy animated splash intro movie for Mythburn to replace the black & white one currently there, we would need both 720x576 (PAL 25fps) and 720x480 (NTSC 29.99fps) resolutions.

Thanks

There is a problem with your install routine.

After compleating the instructions above do the following:

Code:
mkdir images/backgrounds/thumbnails
./createbackgroundthumbs.sh /myth/mythburn

I think that should fix it.

I could help with that. How long? 5 sec? 10 sec? And you want them in MPEG2, right? If so, what target bitrate; if not, what codec?

The current one is about 3 seconds, but 5 would probably be okay. They need to be MPEG2 and as small as possible - probably less than 3Mb each. MPEG2 obviously needs to be DVD specs.

Thank you very much for the new splash movies - very professional!

They are in CVS now.

I updated from CVS last nigh according to your instructions. I did it after your fix for the createbackgroundthumbs.sh script. Update from CVS went great.

I have an 18GB program (3 hours) that I recorded with my HD-3000, so I decided to give the new requantization feature a try. I ran into some problems that I was hoping you could shed some light on. It seemed to make it through most of the stuff OK, but there was an error during the requantization, and (consequently?) at the end when it tried to burn the disc. The end of the log file is below. Let me know if you need any more iinfo from the logs.

The problem is with tcrequant, it has problems reducing the file sizes below a certain point your using a factor of 4.234884 to fit onto DVD - I think anything over 3 wont work.

The factor is calculated automatically based on a standard single layer DVD-R - about 4.3Gb.

Have a look at these threads for people with similar problems....

http://itdp.fh-biergarten.de/~itdp/html/transcode-users/2005-04/msg00123.html

I think the only real way around this is to re-encode the video from HDTV to a lower MPEG2 rate - something I've not done!

That makes sense. It is a fairly high factor.

I'll try it with a smaller recording. Great script!

I was thinking about this. Should there also be an option for dual layer DVD blanks (9GB)? I don't have one of these drives but I'm sure others would like this feature. And I would in the future :-)

I just tried the CVS version and ran into the same error as Red5. This was for a single 800MB file. It doesn't like 29.97 for some reason.

Hi
I am a newbie here and this is my first post. I have been playing with Knoppmyth for a couple of months, i started using it as a way of recording all the mrs' programs whilst we were away on hols. The program is wonderfull and R22 worked first time with no tweeking even with my JETWAY kworld DVB-t Card, although i still havnt got the remote going YET. The backend still crashes if you try to watch a channel that is off air but other than that its bullet proof, recorded all the programs i wanted whilst i was on holiday for three weeks. I have somehow broke mythfilldatabase as it only seems to add data if i run it from the command line but i will try searching for a fix b4 i post for help on that

I tried to do the CVS upgrade to R22 a few days ago following the above instructions. unfortunately having deleted the mythburn directory the cvs would n't load  kept coming up with message saying 'connection refused'. I need the mythburn function so i can watch my recordings so i ended up doing a complete reinstall to get it back.

Anyhow tempted by the 'shrink' facility of the new mythburn i tried a reinstall today, with a little more success. this time i used my windose box through a samba share to rename the old mythburn directory to /myth/mythburnold. then i procceded to do the cvs install.

I selected three files totaling about 6GB to burn and set it running all went well for a while then it stopped i looked at the log and got a page segmentation fault from dvdauthor. Sorry i havnt got any more details i accidently deleted the log.

one thing i did notice was the shrink factor was 1.6... it seems this is calculated before the ads are cut out, in fact after the ads were removed the files were only 4GB so didnt need shrinking at all. would it not be possible to requatize the files aftes all the ads are removed ??? ie create all the mp2.big files and audio files add up the size of the audio etc and then reqantize.

ie

factor = Sum(mv2.bigs)/(4.3GB- sum(audio_sizes) - size_of_menus)

then requantize with this factor .

Anyhow i have renamed my mythburn old to mythbun and will use that for now i will use dvdshrink if the iso is to big.

A couple of other thing other things related to dvd writing

to get the dvd writer to write i used

Code:
chmod www-data:www-data /dev/hdc

now my myth front end wont use the drive i remember vaugely from my sco unix days that i should be able to add www-data to the same group as mythtv this should allow both programs to access the drive ??

And the last thing how do i re-use my +RW media from mythburn i tried errasing the disk with nero but mythburn still wont write to them it says there is an iso image on them. ??

Thanks all this is one of the best bits of software ive used.

I didnt do anything special to erase RW media. I just put it in and mythburn wrote over the top.
