so i finaly get myth all stabilised and working flawlessly, now i want to extend its functionalaty.

ok first i have configures samba (made the user acount with passwd and it works well with my XP x64 box) but now that i can gain accesss to (some) of the folders i wish to know how i can take the *.nuv files off and transcode them into x vids or mpeg4 or what have you. i understand there is a command that can do this, but i do not know what it is, or how to use it. can it convert multiple files or is it a one vid at a time dealeo?

better yet, could i just stram the file off of the mythbox?

#2 ok i have a generic video CAPTURE card (i cant rember the chipset in it... its a bt7 somethin. sorry i dont rember.)
is there any way i can use it like a remote media device. like if i was upstairs and i wanted 2 watch TV i would just hook up 2 the myth box and stream the video? i am not talking about myth web (or the streaming thing. i want local, WITHOUT having to do it through the internet. if possible i would like to keep it inside the home network.

#3 ok now on to the wed admin.
i used this tut.
http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=WebminHowTo
now when they say the host name...
Quote:
While you're there change the line that has host=dev.mysettopbox.tv and set it to be your host name rather than Cecil's.

waht does this mean? change it the name you gave it when you first installed (i mabe it familybox)
so does this mean that i need to make the host FAMILYBOX ?
and when it says this

Quote:
Remove the # comment symbol if present, and add or change the IP number to include other machines. For instance allow=127.0.0.1 192.168.1.30 allows only a single machine in your internal network to access webmin, and allow=127.0.0.1 192.168.1.0 allows any machine in your internal network to access webmin.

how do i make it so i can acces this from the internet. yes i have a static IP and yes i do have a router that dpes the NAT for me. so technicaly, if the router is IP'ed 192.168.1.0
wouldnt it still work? i mean if i was at my cousins house (300 miles away) and i wanted 2 admin would i just do

https://(MY STATIC IP):10000/

and then my NAT would take care of the rest. as long as i forward the (port 80 traffic i assume) to the MYTHTV's internal ip?

and now for the last one. (3B)

ok final question.
is there a way i can remote console?
lets say that this box is in a hrd to get to location, but the computers i use a lot are not, can i remote admin it (not like the web interface. i want lik a remote console. i think what i want is called ssh or something like that.

thanks for the help

#1 - I dunno how to transcode the files, but to watch them straight off the mythtv box, you need to set up "pretty" using mythlink.sh.orig i think. Then install the dsmyth filters on your windows machine.

#2 - Streaming to a windows machine without mythweb will be just about impossible. You could make a dedicated frontend though.

#3 - I think you would set the hostname to your public IP address. If you want it accessible from the whole world, allow=0.0.0.0 (i think)

You would need to forward port 10000, not 80 to use webmin from outside your network.

#3b download putty (windows). Forward port 22 if you want to use it from the internet.
