Im new to linux have a question.
How can I recompile the existing Mplayer in R5A22? I looked for an mplayer directory in /usr/local/share and /usr/bin/ but could not find one. When I find the directory do I ./configure & make & make install?

Thanks,
Miker

Read the thread I started here.

Since you're new to the game, I should say that your best friend is the search feature. This and other boards have a wealth of information on tap. Just spend 5 or 10 minutes doing a key word search before you post. Odds are someone before you had a similar problem that a key word search may pickup.

I have read your instructions (which are very helpful) and did quite a bit of searching. So far I made placed codecs into /usr/local/lib/codecs and was wondering if I could recompile the existing mplayer so it could see the new codecs. No response to my first post and my search info say that it is not possible. I have to download a new mplayer and then compile for it to see the new codecs.

at least on my version of knoppmyth mplayer is placed in /usr/bin
so you should use

./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install

otherwise you will have 2 mplayers on your system.. =)
