Hi,

Just did an upgrade from A16 to A26, went smooth, adjusted cache, all is well, except thumbs on the web page. It won't make any from the existing recordings. A new recording gives me the thumb for it. Any hints on how to have them regenerated?

Thanks
Mike

First drop all of the old ones to force regeneration
Code:
rm -f /myth/tv/*.png
rm -f /myth/image_cache/*.png

Then check permissions on the directories to make sure they're correct:
Code:
root@black2:~# ls -ald /myth/tv/ /myth/image_cache/
drwxrwxr-t  2 mythtv www-data 12288 Nov 19 23:03 /myth/image_cache/
drwxr-xr-x  3 mythtv mythtv   24576 Nov 20 14:57 /myth/tv/

Finally, go to the "Recorded Programs" page under MythWeb, this will take a while as it regenerates all the png files.

Hi tjc,

Yes, I had checked all the usual permissions and had already set them to your post. What kind of tosses the red herring into the pie is the fact that a new recording makes the thumb, it is just pre-existing recordings that aren't regenerated :? Fortunetly, they aren't valuable and after my daughter watches her "Charmed" shows, they will be history anyway.

I did check on a different machine (A16 > A26) just out of curiousity because it worked, I never bothered to check the settings. Interesting:
root@mythtv-40:~# ls -ald /myth/tv/ /myth/image_cache/
drwxrwxrwx 2 mythtv mythtv 4096 Nov 20 01:00 /myth/image_cache/
drwxrwxr-x 3 mythtv mythtv 4096 Nov 17 22:03 /myth/tv/

Since it works, I'll leave it alone, for now...

Thanks for the pointers and if I get a chance to figure it out will let you know what I find.

Mike

Try changing the offset for grabbing the images under settings too. That should force a regenerate. Is there anyhting wonky about the older files vs. the newer ones? Ownership? Permissions? ... I'm presuming you mean stuff recorded before the upgrade doesn't work and stuff recorded afterwards does. Also, did you accidentally or intentionally change the hostname during the upgrade? To check this fire up mysql and do something like "select distinct hostname from recorded".

Hi tjc,

That is an option. I don't think I changed the name however it is possible there was a case change on the leading charactor. It is a low priority as all works well, except regenerating thumbs from pre upgrade recordings.

Play fine locally and from a remote frontend.

Unfortunetly, my daughter took her machine home today so I won't be able to look at the db till turkey day unless she opens her firewall for me to ssh.

At least it is a path to look at and it would be nice nice to have a solution in case someone else runs into the situation.

Thanks
Mike
