Like to topic says, does anyone know how to automate this? I know mythtv has transcoding as a option, but those files dont play in windows after you encode it.

My transcoded files play just fine in windows if I use VLC. Media Player Classic does not like them however. If you don't mind using VLC you should be fine just using the regular transcoding.
