After lengthy searching for some help on this, am resorting to asking for some help on this. I am having a problem with "Watch TV" locking up after about 5 hours of being on the same channel. I figure this has something to do with the buffer (ringbuffer), but changing the ringbuffer does not seem to have any effect on it locking up or not.

I am running KnoppMyth on a Celeron 533 using R5A26, 256MB RAM, 160 GB harddrive and PVR-350 using its TV-out.

Everything seems to be working great, accept this lock up issue. It is important to get this corrected for me due to other family members using the box and will likely forget to exist "Watch TV" when turing off the TV.

Any help on this would be most welcomed.

Eric

I tried to run the script "cat checkSize.sh" but it told me that the directory could not be found. Perhaps I am not doing this right. I tried it in both the root and in myth logins. I have been picking up on linux commands since I started this project, but I have a lot to learn. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

The cat command was just showing you the contents of a file. The script is the lines after that up until the next command prompt...

I followed the script and entered it in as stated in the post your referred to and here is the information that was returned:

Size of cache partition is 11 Gb
BufferSize setting in DB is 10 Gb
./mythtvchecksize.sh: line 9: [: missing `]'
./mythtvchecksize.sh: line 9: DB_BufferSize: command not found
That sounds pretty sane to me!

Even though the error came up, it think the pertinent information came through.

You don't have a Via based motherboard do you?

Well, its an old HP system from 1999 that came with a Celeron 533 processor. I want to say no, but to be absolutely sure, I would need open the case and have a look at the board. Something tells me that it would be an intel board given the age of it.

Another thing worth mentioning is that when I look at the system status in mythtv, it says that I am using 210MB of the 256MB available RAM (idle). I wonder if I need more RAM, but not sure if that would solve the problem.

i'm a Fedore Core user so not sure what if knopix has the same commands:

free // displays free memory INCLUDING swap space

if you run out of physical memory your system should just start swapping to hard drive. also make sure your system isnt running out of HD space. i think theres an option on how much the tv watching will use. make that # smaller. so if all space is used: physical, swap, and HD then your system may crash.

also check your log files (/var/log/messages and /var/log/mythtv/myth*.log) sometimes usefull stuff gets put in there.
