After much trying I've decided to give up with my current mobo (via chipset) and go for an Nforce2 board.
I am determined to get this working once and for all this time.
Now I was re-reading the installation instruction over on the wiki (just to check really) but it's made me wonder ....

So my questions are:
1. Nvidia drivers... does the current R5A26 install some automatically? I seem to recall it installing some nvidia stuff last time...

2. DVD drives... when it insatalls a message flicks up about running something. Is this to actually get mythTV to recognise the dvd drive for what it is? If so, how do I do it? (It's gone too quick!)

3. Related to 2. I've tried running the program in 'examples', but unfortunately my MythTV box isn't connected to the internet at present. How would I go about getting the necessary software and installing it from an Xterm window or logged on as root?

That should do for now.
Thanks if you take the time.

1. The nVidia drivers are for video cards, the chipset should just work and they do install automatically if a nVidia video card is detected.

2. If you have your DVD drive set as the master on the Second channel it should just work fine.

3. As to this topic, a topic you should never mention. Look at the script yourself that you have run and you will be able to see what it does.

1) yes starting with R5A22 the install detects if you have a nvidia card and automatically installs the nvidia drivers, so you can ignore the part of the install instructions about this.

2) most likely all you are seeing is the script that creates the symlinks for dvd and cdrom, really shouldn't be anything you need to do.

3) ^

Thanks guys, for the first two answers at least...
I thought that would be the case, I just wanted to check...

As to the other item I'm in the UK I don't have to worry about 'the program that shalt not be named' ... or at least I don't think so... And even if I did... don't think I would ...

And anyhow, I was hoping for a simple answer like 'Yes just down load 'it' and do x,y,z to install it...

Incidently, I've realised last night, the jumpers are wrong on my dvd drive... it thinks its a slave... duhhhhh...

Probably why I couldn't get it to work. Shall sort it this evening once home from work.

as far as I know the "encryption that may not be mentioned" is on all commercial dvd's throughout the world. Unfortunately we cannot tell you step by step because the site resides in the US, and if we do the MPAA can shut it down just for us saying it, so much for first amendment rights, but if you look at the faq I think you will get enough hints to get you what you need.
