Using R5A26 now but want to setup my remote for a button for previous channel. I have looked around but do not see where this is listed for the pvr 250 I am using nor the sample lircrc configs. Is this possible with myth and the pvr250?

Yes. It's dead easy. The normal keybinding for this is "h", all you need to do is pick a button and edit your /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc to map the button to "h". Lets say you want to use the blank button on the old grey (cigar shaped) remote:
