Media Center Remote, IR Blaster, etc.
Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 4000
KnoppMyth R26

I have everything working except the remote. I've tried it as all the Hauppauge types, and as both the old and new MCE's, and nothing.
I do get a red light flashing on the receiver when I press buttons, and the USB cable is in and I think its all good.

So what is the next step? I didn't see anything by searching or the wiki that was relevant to the newer version of Knoppmyth, but then again prehaps the old notes at:

http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... stallation

Are right?

AFAIK, the MCE remote is not a Hauppauge remote. Have you tried:

At the top it says:
R5A15 / R5A16

Since im on R5A26 I was not sure if the instructions were vaild or would blow my box up.

I guess I can try it.

I found some other threads about remotes and did some digging.

It seems lirc is not starting when the system boots. If I start it manually, and start irw, it is seeing the remote and my buttons just fine.

But myth still sees nothing.

Another thread said something about if they (lircd and irw?) don't start before Myth then the remote won't be seen by myth.

If so, what do I check to make sure lircd is set to startup before myth, and where would I find a log file to see if it is erroring on boot.

Alan

So I was able to figure out how to shut gnome down (I killed it, because gdm-stop does nothing). Then I started lircd and then restarted the front end.

La-Volia, the remote works. Some keys seem funky, but that I can fix with the info in the Wiki and LIRC.

My question is, I have a line lircd in the modules file, but that doesn't seem to fire LIRC, where does it need to be?

Try /etc/init.d/gdm stop

Why the remote works when I stop GDM, manually load lirc and yet won't work on a reboot?

Reading the site I find things that might be helpful, if I could understand them.

Anyone got any ideas, cause I am out?

What log files would help figure this out?

Now I can more easily stop GDM, load LIRCD and then start GDM and my remote will work.

Anyone have a way to automate this, or any idea why it has to be done in the first place?

- Use an editor like nano or vi to put the commands together in a text file called my_lirc_fix.sh

- Add a line at the very beginning of the file that says:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
it MUST be the first line in the file. Save the file.

- Make the file executable like this:
Code:
chmod +x my_lirc_fix.sh

- Run the newly created script (and congratulations on your first shell program!) as follows:
Code:
./my_lirc_fix.sh

Actually I know how to make a shell script, but thanks for the assistance. My question is how to make this run on boot up. I need to do the equivelent of inserting it after GDM/Myth Frontend starts up, so I can kill it, load LIRCD and restart GDM.

I still think this is a kludge, and somehow some config file is just hammered. Of course I've reinstalled from scratch a few times and it has always behaved the same way so prehaps it's just a bug.
