I have completed step 3 OK. Can see a whole bunch of stuff in channels.conf for uk-CrystalPalace which all looks pretty good. Great! When I select Input connections I have a

capture device = [DVB:0]
Input = DVB0
Video Source = None (and nothing else in drop down)

So I can't actually 'select DVB' as the instructions say to do. It is just there. Is this correct?

Then for Option A of Channel Editor, I can't select 'Advanced' as it is greyed out? There are no channels showing in the top box. Just "New Channel"

I guess I am being thick. I think I am pretty close now.

sounds like I may have made a false assumption when i changed the guide from R5A16 to R5A22.

On the (Channels Source) screen, select UK alternative and call it RadioTimesUK, then use ALT TAB when it appears to crash. A prompt appears, select just one channel and then cancel out of it. This creates an XML file for the Video Source. Now the Video Source option should change, allowing you to select RadioTimesUK. You may have to kill the backend aswell.

I think that might be it anyway...let me know

OK. Done that which works as you suggest. In fact I have been here before. I just get a scanning dialogue with No signal strength and a Status of "Scanning No Lock" message at the top. Sig/Noise reads 50%.

Now I have tested the RF and with an old Nokia Mediamaster freeview box I get perfect picture. The sig strength indicator on that shows a Maximum indication. It not very sophisticated! So I 'believe' that the RF should be fine. If there really is any doubt it will mean a job to move computer upstairs to right next to the o/p of the distribution amlifier.

Any ideas?

More success. If I put in the freq (505833330) AND change BW to 8MHz it scans with 100% S/N and seems to work perfectly. Yipee!! When its finished I can see the above freq plus 5 other "transports" under the 'advanced' button.

But what do I do now? Your instructions say to reboot and watch TV. But I did this (once) and just saw the install routine start again.

Are you using R5a22 yeah?

You might have got some of the scan settings wrong, enter:

Frequency: 505833330
Bandwith: 8mhz

and hit scan!

Keep us posted :)

I assume you pressed ESC, save and exit, then SETUP screen disappeared, the frontend menu loaded, and then you rebooted properly (u didn't just press the reboot button on your PC did you?)

Hmmm. I worked that out. I was so engrossed in the GUI I sort of overlooked it was just part of the install. Once I hit escape it all completed beautifully.

Great picture but my audio is scratchy and crackly???

Any pointers where the best route is to find troubleshooting ideas for audio. I'm already searching but any ideas would help.

What sound card is it?

If you record something, when you play it back is it scratchy? Does playing an MP3 sound scratchy?

Its all sorted. I can't honestly say what I did. Lots of fiddling. At first I did try playing a CD which was also scratchy. Hadn't got around to recording/replaying. Though it was on my list. I don't find it very satisfactory (for myself) to know what I did. But no doubt I'll play around and learn more as time goes on.

A quick addendum to this:

I notice that markj you have the same problem (of sorts) when scanning for channels. I'm on a new rebuild due to hdd failing so went for R7A26 and my signal strenght appears to have dissapeared as well. I notice you use the Crystal Palace transmitter to... is it a problem with the mast or the software. Detecting channels worked like a charm on '22.

I have to say, I managed to get '26 to work adding the transport details manually. Slightly time consuming but it worked. Well, mostly I too had some corruption on some channels and sound problems too.

Current rig =
Sempron 2600+
512 DDR 333
NF7-S v2 mobo
Samsung Spinpoint 250g
2x Nova T cards
Pioneer dvd rom
Soundblaster Live 5.1

I looked at the changelog and can't see any massive difference.

R5A26 is my first contact with KnoppMyth. Though I've been reading for a long time. I re-installed last night to try to understand the problem.

After install I had the same scratchy audio. Tweaked a few setting via the GUI to no avail. Then after some reading I started ALSAMIXER from a cmd line. I noticed that the "CD" level was quite high and 'in the RED'. So I reduced it. Bingo! Good clean audio. It was reproducible. I could break it again by increasing the "CD" level. Now it doesn't make sense to me why changing this channel would result in bad audio. But there you go. Is there a better place I should repost this finding for the benefit of all. Or a feedback mechanism to the developers.
