I don't have a DVD-ROM in my myth box because it's too slow to play DVD's. But I'd like to burn the recorded shows to DVD on another computer on the network with a DVD-RW drive. I have samba running on myth and can see the myth share fine on my Windows boxes. I don't know how to do the same (in reverse) from my KnoppMyth box to see if the DVD-RW would be available from the Myth box.
Is this possible? Am I asking for trouble?
Additionally, I'm confused on how to burn DVD's. I see nuv2dvd, nuv2iso, and other programs. If this'd work, how would I accomplish this?
Thanks.
Roger

I use NFS to mount the myth share. 'zat help? rkhanso wrote: Additionally, I'm confused on how to burn DVD's. I see nuv2dvd, nuv2iso, and other programs. If this'd work, how would I accomplish this?
See above (and checkout MythBurn!).

I understood part of your answer - I did use Mythburn on a recording and ended up with a new folder in /myth/mythburn/temp called "1_1" with a bunch of .jpg files in it.
Also had a new folder called "menu" that also had a bunch of .jpg files (although a different name format)
Also had a .nuv and .nuv.index file in the /temp folder.
What do I do with them? How/what do I burn to a DVD? I didn't find an .iso like you mentioned would be made.

It looks like I jumped the gun. I don't think it's finished because I now see this on the web page:

Eventually, /myth/mythburn/DVD will be full of 7GB of VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS, and if you clicked "create ISO", mythburn.iso will be created in temp.
You may have a bit of a a problem burning that much data to a single DVD, though. About 4.4GB for a single sided, and 7.8 for a dual layer (if you are lucky!)

It did finish and create an .iso image. It is over 7GB and I'm able to burn it onto a DVD using DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink shrinks down any DVD to fit on a 4.7GB (or I could use a 9GB and fit the original in it's original quality, if Dual Layer DVD's were cheaper) and adjusts the quality to fit. It works great.
Now, I need to learn how to cut commercials out of these things before I run MythBurn. I mistakenly hit the wrong button on the remote on 1 recorded show and deleted what I wanted saved. I'll search for using the editing functions in Myth.
Thanks for the help - I'm learning more about Myth every day and appreciating the amount of work and effort that went into writing it.

Cutting commercials out is taken care of by MythBurn if setup correctly. You must, of course, flag the commercials first (either manually or have Myth do it...although I have found that Myth does an OK job of commflagging, I still must go in and manually mark some commercials).
Also, I only make .iso images with MythBurn, then transfer them to my TiBook for burning to DVD.
I wish I could take credit for helping, but I can't, and I must also say "thanks" to Cecil, Dale, Human, Greg Frost...who'd I miss?
Commflagging and manipulating the cutlist are the two most recent Myth things I learned (and I hadn't planned on having to learn them, as I really only wanted MythTV to act as a movie jukebox...but the wife of a friend saw what I was doing and I'm now recording Genital Hospital for her (I do get free food in exchange, though)...<sigh>, oh, well).
Ask if you need help!

Regarding cutting commercials. The way I did it was cumbersome, but maybe the correct way?
In myth, watched recording, went into edit mode. Hit 'z' to load the commerical list. played the movie just before each cut point to see if the commercials were cut out properly. Some were off a little, so I went to the actual start or end of commercial break (whichever was off) and hit enter on the remote - where myth asked me if I wanted to move the cut point. I said yes (still, it was off sometimes...)
I did get mixed up and deleted the wrong direction once and really messed up the commercial cut points, it took about 30 minutes (it was my first try) to get the commercials marked on a 2-hour Star Wars movie.
After I was finished moving the commercial cut points, I exited edit mode and went back to play the movie, when I presed the 'x' key to tell myth to transcode the movie. I'm thinking this actually takes the commercials out? or maybe not. I don't really know.
I'm guessing when I use MythBurn in the web interface to make the .iso - the commercials get removed since I have the cut list there?
Am I way off base here? Or tips to get the job done faster or better?

Instead of waiting for it to flag commercials, and then importing them and changing (editing them), you could just hit 'e' while watching the recording. This brings up the editing function, which gives you the ability with UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT and Enter to insert your own cut points.
With practice, you will get much faster at it. I can do a 2 hour show in about 170 seconds. (it helps when you have learnt the pattern of the ads, and if you have a remote with good joystick-style cursor buttons)

Thanks for the tips.
I'm running MythBurn and getting this output in the logs...
Does it indicate trouble? Or can I ignore it?

I'm also getting an error when trying to make an ISO. It makes its way to almost the end and fails with this error:
Code: STAT: Processing /myth/mythburn/temp/final_sceneselection1.mpg... ERR: Error opening /myth/mythburn/temp/DVD/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_0.VOB: No such file or d$ *********************************** MythTV BurnDVD stopped due to error *********************************** Sent UDP/XML packet to IP 255.255.255.255 and port: 6948
I can post the rest of my mythburn log if it will help, but I didn't want to take up too much space.
I've gotten into my /tmp/DVD folder and it's completely empty. Should I set permissions? I didn't notice anywhere in the log that it mentioned that it didn't have correct permissions.
Thanks!
[EDIT] I am trying to set permissions as suggested by this post:

I had used (from the other post) chmod 764 and when I ran mythburn again, I still did not have my ISO and it gave me that error.
I went ahead and changed my permissions to 755 and here's a ls -l of my folders:
Code: root@pvr:/myth/mythburn# chmod 755 /myth/mythburn/temp root@pvr:/myth/mythburn# ls -l total 120 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 36 Sep 25 2004 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:50 CVS -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 137 Oct 7 12:04 README -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7485 Oct 12 12:26 changes.txt drwxr-xr-x 3 mythtv www-data 4096 Nov 12 19:59 conf -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 200 Sep 25 2004 convert_to_mp2.sh -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 209 Oct 7 12:04 createbackgroundthumbs.sh drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:48 fonts drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:48 gop_fixup drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:49 images -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13573 Oct 13 12:04 install.sh drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:49 mpg drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:49 music drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:49 myth-mplex -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 554 Nov 12 19:58 mythburn.conf -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 21122 Oct 13 12:27 mythtvburn.sh drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:49 mythwebburn drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:49 replex-0.1.3 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:50 replex-0.1.4 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Oct 18 19:50 scripts drwxr-xr-x 3 www-data mythtv 4096 Dec 2 07:35 temp root@pvr:/myth/mythburn#
When I had it set at 764, it read like this: Code: drwxrw-r-- 3 www-data mythtv 4096 Dec 2 07:35 temp
Does this look correct?
[EDIT] changing permissions to 755 still didn't help. I have the same error. I will try changing /temp and /temp/DVD to 777 just for temporary and try it again.
[EDIT #2] the change to 777 worked and I now have an ISO. Hooray! Is there a safe permission setting that will still allow me to write to that folder?

First thing to do is fix the directory ownership to match the user running the scripts.
