I'm trying to get mythgame working, and so far I've got the joypads working using this post:
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4952
But when I try running mythgame the fronted gives this error:
Code: MameRomLocation not set in mythgame-settings.txt, using default./usr/games/xmame -rompath /roms -history_file /var/lib/mythgame/history.dat -snapshot_directory /myth/games/xmame/screens -hiscore_directory /myth/game/xmame/hiscore -hiscore_file /myth/game/xmame/hiscore.dat -skip_disclaimer -skip_gameinfo -video-mode 1 -fullscreen -noartwork -noautoframeskip -scale 1 -antialias -notranslucency -noanalogstick -winkeys -nograbmouse -joytype 1 -samples -volume -16 -nocheat /usr/games/xmame -rompath -lr "" 2>/dev/null
Now I've hunted down an example mythgame-settings.txt file which I can edit with my correct settings, but where do I put it?
Edit: I've just tried running xmame on it's own, and I can't get it to work. I've tested the roms, and they seem fine, so I'm a bit flumoxed. Any ideas?

You should just have to edit the settings (Utilities/Setup -> Setup -> Media Settings -> Game Settings). Actually you shouldn't have to do that at all, unless you want to change the defaults.

Ok, that means I've probably messed up my settings...
I think it wasn't working before I touched the settings, but I can't say if that was because I was having the catver.ini error. Could someone post their working settings?
Also I've tried just running Code: xmame gamename.zip from the /myth/games/xmame/roms directory, and it throws an error about not being able to find the files. Code: ERROR: required files are missing, the game cannot be run.
This happens on every rom I've got, and I've checked the zip contents and they're all in there.

I don't think you can run xmame like that. You should use the rompath switch. The settings(really just path) is in the pamphlet. You can also take a lok at /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/KnoppMyth.sql.

I've checked my settings, and it's still not working. Here are my settings:
MAME Binary Location: /usr/games/xmame (The default)
MAME Rom Location: /myth/games/xmame/roms (Where my roms are)
Catver.ini file: /usr/lib/games/xmame/catver.ini (the default, and where I've put catver.ini)
MAME Screenshots path: /myth/games/xmame/screens
MAME Hiscores path: /myth/games/xmame/hiscores
MAME Hiscores file: /myth/games/xmame/hiscore.dat
MAME Flyers path: /myth/games/xmame/flyers
In the /usr/local/share/knoppmyth/KnoppMyth.sql some of the defaults are listed, others just show MythTV_GX* for their entry.
It's still giving me the same MameRomLocation not set in mythgame-settings.txt error.

Is there anyone out there with a working setup that can shed some light on this?
Are these settings the same as yours?
Anyone?

Well thought I would give it a try. My settings are all default I downloaded the catver.ini file and unzipped it to the location listed in my mythgame setup screen. Downloaded some Roms put them in the appropriate rom directories,
Scanned for games, went into mythgame to start one......
Mame Nothing starts although it sees the game
Snes Same
Nes Same
PC playes Tux and Frozen bubble
I had figured all I would have to do is install the Roms but I gues not looking for some suggestions I have been reading the wiki but it does not help me.
Thanks
Craig

Craig, can you run mythfrontend from an xterm window, and report it's output when you try to run the game?
To do this:
Quit out of the mythtv frontend so you're at the GDM desktop. Right click on the desktop. Select XShells Select Xterm in the console window, type: mythfrontend Then go and try to run the game.
Once the game's failed to run, alt-tab to the console window and you should see the error message.

Here is the output from a mame game
/usr/games/xmame -rompath /myth/games/xmame/roms -history_file /myth/games/xmame
/history -snapshot_directory /myth/games/xmame/screens -hiscore_directory /var/l
ib/mythgame/hiscore -hiscore_file /var/lib/mythgame/hiscore.dat -noskip_disclaim
er -noskip_gameinfo -video-mode 1 -fullscreen -noartwork -noautoframeskip -scal
e 1 -noantialias -notranslucency -beam 1.000000 -flicker 0.000000 -noanalogstic
k -nowinkeys -nograbmouse -joytype 4 -samples -volume -16 -nocheat 1941
/usr/games/xmame -rompath /myth/games/xmame/roms -lr "1941" 2>/dev/null
/usr/games/xmame -rompath /myth/games/xmame/roms -history_file /myth/games/xmame
/history -snapshot_directory /myth/games/xmame/screens -hiscore_directory /var/l
ib/mythgame/hiscore -hiscore_file /var/lib/mythgame/hiscore.dat -noskip_disclaim
er -noskip_gameinfo -video-mode 1 -fullscreen -noartwork -noautoframeskip -scal
e 1 -noantialias -notranslucency -beam 1.000000 -flicker 0.000000 -noanalogstic
k -nowinkeys -nograbmouse -joytype 4 -samples -volume -16 -nocheat 1941
/usr/games/xmame -rompath /myth/games/xmame/roms -lr "1941" 2>/dev/null
SNES Error
MythThemedDialog.o: something is requesting a screen update of zero size. A widget probably has not done a calculateScreeArea(). Will redraw the whole screen (inefficient!).
/usr/bin/snes9x -st -alt -ne -soundquality 4 "/myth/games/snes/roms/3 Ninjas Kick Back (U).zip"
sh: /usr/bin/snes9x: No such file or directory
The Myththemed error comes up all the time but seems to have no effect on anything i just enter out of it and myth works.

R5A26 config out of the box does exactly the same thing. I've d/led catver.ini and tried various settings. Seems once people get this working they're too busy playing games to post an answer to this problem.
iscraigh did you get this working? I've got exactly the same problem as you
Anyone else have a solution to iscraigh problem?

My problem was fixed by turning off the joystick check, as per hint 16.6 in the setup docs.
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-16.html#ss16.6
I had also modified the history path, and added catver.ini. So I'm not sure if the joystick check would have done the trick by itself, or if it took all 3 things.
