I've got R5A26 installed.
While messing with keybindings and lirc to try and get the remote functioning in a fashion logical to me (OK, honestly... logical to my wife), I found the setting labeled "Press select to change the channel in the program guide" I checked that box and it worked as advertised.

After some more remote/keybinding configuration, the "Press select to change the channel in the program guide" stopped working. I checked the setting and it was stilll "on". I tried turning it off and on, rebooting, checked my keybindings... No joy.

Now, the behavior is the same whether the box is checked or unchecked and I can not change the channel in the EPG by pushing anything (keyboard or remote). If I press select (return, space, etc.), I get the recording settings. If I press "M", I go back to the menu.

I'm guessing the problem is in the keybindings somewhere, but I can't figure out where. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I figured out what's going on. If it's described anywhere, I can't find it, so for the benefit of others...
It seems that the guide you bring up from Live TV ("Show Program Guide" in the "TV Playback" section in Mythweb keybinding configuration) behaves differently from the "Program Guide" ("Jumppoint" in Mythweb keybinding configuration).
The former has a live TV window in the upper right hand corner and you can select channels from it.
The latter has no live TV and you cannot switch to a live tv channel from it, only set up recordings.

That seems totally counterintuitive to me - the guide should act the same everywhere.

The program guide that you're talking about is part of the recording interface/mode so it only provides access to recording stuff. It's a modal interface, i.e. one that does different things depending on what mode you're in. This is like being in vi command mode and having text you type act as commands rather than being inserted. Sometimes modal interfaces can be very intuitive, and they're often essential for cases where you have fewer controls (e.g. keys on a keyboard) than things that you need to control, but if you don't know which mode you're in, things can get ugly fast... They can also be extemely frustrating in cases like this.
