I can let the comm detection run and then open video in mpeg2 format and push E to go to edit mode thet X to insert commercial skips then use then E to exit edit mode then X to transcode and t warks great!

But how can I just set that up as a user job to run after comm detection job on files?

I suspect the MythTV docs at http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO.html might be helpful. Particularly the bit in section 23 entitled "What is this transcoder thing, and how do I use it?"

Another question is 'would you want to'? Especially if you have to edit after comm flagging to add/edit cutpoints. If the comm flagging isn't reliable you may loose chunks of content.

A further hint - you don't need user jobs to do this there are settings already to automate that on the setup screens, but I think in more than one place.

I had a look at the section tjc linked too and it looked to me like it was implying that accepting the detected commercial cuts was a manual process. From that I would conclude that it can't be done using stock myth software, but has someone come up with another solution?

They said theres a manual way (the way I described) and an automatic way (in the settings) I would use the automatic way to just transcode ofter recording but it doesnt add the cut points to be removed.

If I leave the commercials in (just transcode) can the commercial points stay in for commercial skipping?

Yes this can be done, but unless you use something like mwahal's script, you would still need to manually load the commercial skip points as edit points.
