heres the deal i bought a hauppauge 500. Basically 2 tuners in one, so i need to setup two tuners in the setup. I'm using one video card in this machine (if that makes a difference. I want to use RF-in to give the card a cable source (Rf is the round cable with a point metal tip? standard cable cable?).

Whats with video device? Is that what im going to be using Tv-Out with?

Default Input - is this the source of cable the tuner will be receiving?

Yes you will want to be plugging into the F-jack (cable input)

The video device(s) is how linux represents your 500. In this case for the 500 there are 2 you need to worry about.

-- edit #2 12/3 1:00a ET----
/dev/video0 - first tuner output (mpeg encoded video)
/dev/video1 - second tuner output (mpeg encoded video)

Thanks for clearing that up tjc
-----------------

There are a couple more but I need to look at the device mappings again cuz I forget what they are and the function they provide. Take a look at the wiki, there's a section on setting up the 150 and it should be similar to it. http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=HauppaugeOneFiftyInstallation

-- edit --> There's a link on the wiki pointing to the 500 which states it works right out the box on a R5A26 install. I use R5A22 and it worked right away too.

Your default input will be Tuner 0 once you setup the card in mythsetup
Remember to copy the firmware from the CD (HcwMakoA.ROM) to /lib/modules

You mean ENcoded not decoded.

Yes and no. That's what the upgrade option is for. New install keep the old data.

I ran the upgrade, but didn't hit accept yet. "Knopp Myth Auto-Upgrade
Warning this process will ovewrite ALL of hda1."
I have tons of video in /myth/video. Will this upgrade delete all of that?

/myth is on /dev/hda4 (if you originally did an auto install).

Hi,
Sorry to hear that, the Backup is a KnoppMyth function the makes a safe copy of the database in the protected /myth partition. The auto upgrade then reads that database backup to restore your recordings so they reappear properly plus it saves all the settings you previously had changed. It does not backup the recordings as they are not disturbed.

Strongly suggest going to the http://mythtv.org and read through all the documents as they can be very helpful. Also Xsecrets has a lot of valuable information on his wiki that is dedicated to helping people with KnoppMyth.

On the plus side of life, R5A26 is very nice.
Mike

Bzzzt! That should be tuner0 on both cards. Hope it was just a typo...

It wasn't a typo, i wasn't sure if it would think it was 2 seperate tuners, or one single one. I'm not too good with this yet. Anyhow i copied the rom over, updated KnoppMyth for some more support. I'll test it out soon and see if it works :D.

Set it up, it all works but im not sure how to control it too well with a keyboard. How do i shedule a recording? I looked at the knoppmyth pamphlet and couldnt get an answer, i know it's dumb, but if someone can tell me it's a fairly easy question

Go to the wiki, on the main page there is a link to keys.txt which describes all the keyboard commands.

In the KnoppMyth menus it's under "manage recordings".
