Hi,

I've got R5A26 successfully running on this VIA Epia MII 1200, 512M RAM, 160GB HDD, Hauppauge PVR 150 Tuner. Only one thing is really annoying. When I power the box up after being shut down, the remote (it's the one that comes with the Hauppauge cards) doesn't work. irw doesn't respond and even after restarting the lirc daemon and unloading/reloading some of the ir modules I have no joy with the remote. The only way to get it going for now is to simply reboot the machine and then all is well.

I haven't changed any boot option or added any services.

Does anyone have an idea why this would be? I'd love to not have to reboot to get the remote to work.

Thanks.

I think I know the reason. When the machine is powered down the pvr-350 card forgets it's firmware. Durring the bootup the lirc deamon tries to load before the ivytv driver. So it fails. Rebooting allows the pvr-350 card to stay initialized. So the lirc driver loads correctly on a warm reboot. But fails on a cold boot. I'm not sure why manually reloading the lirc deamon doesn't work.

I don't think this should be much of a problem. Isn't your mythtv box on 24/7? All boots should be warm reboots I think.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, you're right, the box should be on all the time but I just noticed that and was wondering what was happening and if it can be corrected. I just like things to work properly :). It would be good if there is a way around this.

I just booted the box up from off and, to my surprise, the remote worked first off! So there is something funny going on...

Did you have the machine off long enough for the card to lose the firmware? It might be a start up order thing, Cecil commented on something like this recently, memory says moving the hotplug setup before something else...

Thanks for your reply. However, how long is long enough? It would've been off for about 12 hours. I'll try to look for cecil's post...

 I guess that's a "YES". About 30 seconds would have been long enough. Try it a couple more times. If keeps working you're golden. If not, there must be something else going on, maybe a race condition on startup.
