I just bought a GeForce MX 4000 trying to get a tv out port that will work. I popped the card in there and tried to hook up a monitor or even the s-video port but nothing works. The mobo's vga port doesn't even work because the card is in there. If i boot up with the card not in there the mobo's VGA port works fine. Is there a BIOS option where I can select the mobo's VGA port to be the default instead of using the card's port so I can at least reinstall linux and hopfully get the card recognized and drivers installed on that?

There should be a BIOS option that lets you choose the which video card gets precedence unless it's one of those "BIOS for Dummies" deals where it decides automagically that if you've got anything else plugged in you must want to use that.

Is the card AGP or PCI? If it's PCI you need to get the BusID for your XF86Config-4. The lspci command will get that for you if you can at least get a text console to display on the card. However if you don't even see the BIOS or other boot time stuff display on that video card you may be SOL.

It's AGP. I was looking through the BIOS and couldnt find any type of procedure. It just gives me the choice of memory and stuff. Any idea where that would be located? The boot choice?

In the Phoenix BIOS on the machine I can look at easily, there is stuff under "Advanced Chipset Features" and "Integrated Peripherals". Check you BIOS manual, while a lot of them are pretty lame it might at least provide a clue. If you can't find the manual, you should be able to get it as PDF from the makers website. One of the easiest ways to get there is to find the mobo model on PriceGrabber, go to the "Product Details" tab, and at the bottom of the page there is almost always a "Manufacturer Link".

BTW - You're not providing very clear details, can you see the BIOS and the boot up sequence on this card?

Yes I have the Phoenix bios. Those two options are set up like this. Also I included what they're set as to:
1 Advanced Chipset Features
-A-DRAM Clock/Drive control
-B-AGP & P2p Bridge control
--b-AGP Aperture size - 128M
--c-AGP 3.0 Mode - 8x
--d-AGP Driving Control - Auto (if auto unselected it asks for an AGP value. You have to enter a HEX number min = 0000 max= 00FF
--e-AGP Fast Write - Enabled
--f-AGP Master 1 ws write - Disabled
--g-AGP Master 1 ws read - Disabled
--h-AGP 3.0 Calibration Cycle - Enabled
--i-VGA Share Memory Size 32M
-C-CPU and PCI Bus Control
--a-PCI Master O WS write - Enabled
--b-PCI Delay Transaction - enabled
--c-vlink mode selection - by auto
--d-vlink 8x support - enabled
2 Integrated Peripherals
-A-VIA OnChip PCI Device
-B-IDE Devices Configuration
--a-PCI IDE BusMaster - Disabled
--b-OnChip IDE Channel 0-Enabled
--c-OnChip IDE Channel 1-Enabled
--d-IDE Prefetch mode - Enabled
-C-I/O Devices Configuration

That's pretty much it for those two options. I did a fresh install without any AGP card in there. Is there any way I could pop it in there while it's still on and then install the drivers? If the Card is in there when it boots no vga ports work. If it's out the mobo's vga port works. I think it's some option in the bios that is selects a video card to use automatically if one is in there. If there isn't one in there it just uses the mobo's. Now the trick is finding that option and shutting it off or make the mobo's vga port the default.

 You really do NOT want to plug a card in when the machine is on. Bad for the card, bad for the machine, just plain bad all the way around. This is a really good way to find out what burning electroinc components smell like... This is a really, really bad idea.
