Hey all,

Finaly did the plunge into getting FireWire + Motorola DCT2600 going here in Nashville.

The problem I'm having is kinda random.
SOMETIMES, When trying to Do LiveTV with the FireWire Tuner, it doesn't work. When it does work, everything works. Broadcast HD channels, Standard Channels, Premium HD Channels, and Regular Digital Premium Channels, changing channels, etc. Everything works no problem. Just sometimes... it doesn't. my Main Concern is if I schedule something with the tuner, what will it do if it times out? I'm glad its at least timing out, but I'd like to get it working correctly.

Mythdb logs Ok:

FrontEnd just goes back to the MythTV Home Screen.
Searching the MythTV Archives I find a few similarities, but mostly people saying upgrading mythtv fixed the problem... but I'm already running A26, sooooo I'm not sure what to try. Happens on any channel.

-----SideNote------
Also I have not yet been able to get test-mpeg2 to work under this release.
I made symlinks to some of the files it was complaining about not able to find, so they don't error out anymore (libraw1394.so & libiec61883.so) but it still bombs when I run that script. Can't find test-mpeg2.o Anywhere on the filesystem, so can't really symlink that one :D

gcc: ../src/.libs/libiec61883.so: No such file or directory

the Setup is using a FireWire PCI Card I purchased from CompUSA on sale. Its working just fine most of the time, so I don't think that the card is the problem.

The Machine Has a PVR-350, PVR-150MCE, that I don't currently have configured for use in Mythtv, while I work on this other problem.

Any Advice?

Thanks!
-Paul

this may be a stupid question, but you do have the cable box turned on right? I know my gf kept turning the cable box off on me there for a while. Other than that I've never had the firewire not work once I got it setup. I'm in Nashville on comcast cable using the onboard firewire from an Abit AS8 board. I know Jarrod's guide talks about having intermittent problems with some firewire cards.

Aye, Its turned on... have yet to even test if any output other then firewire works yet.. :D

Went through Jarod's Guide as well, so not sure what's up with it

I may look into another firewire card as well. The PCI Card, as well as my onboard Firewire are both Via Chipsets, so may look into another alternative card. Will continue to research. Problem will hopefully go away after I do some hardware changes with mobo/proc.

Didn't get time to work on it today, will have to do it tomorrow. Thanks for the Tips.

The FireWire Card I'm using is a Via Based Chipset, but I have not found any specific information about chipsets that have the random problems I am seeing.

The new motherboard I got is an Intel Based board, so we'll see how that turns out with the firewire. If it doesn't work, I'll go get one of those WD cards everyone has luck with.

Another minor detail, that I have not been able to find anything on, when using firewire, the top of the screen on SD Channels has some static. Its just the top prob 10-15 lines of resolution. HD channels, and Premium Channels don't appear to have the problem. Its only really noticable when the scene is dark, like commercial skips.

I don't know if its potentialy hardware related, or software, but there are not many settings to play with as far as capturing video with Firewire that I've found.

Any ideas about this issue?

well the onboard firewire on my intel chipset works great. As far as the static, it's most likely just in the stream. an on normal tv would be hidden by overscan where you are showing the entire stream, just a guess. I haven't really noticed this, but I do have a slight bit of my video off the edge of the screen with overscan.

Starting to think its the DCT6200 Box with the firewire problem.

I've tried:
my Old KT880's Built In VIA chipset Firewire
a Compusa Branded VIA Chipset Firewire card
a Texas Instruments Chipset Firewire card,
and the Via Chipset Built in Firewire on my New Intel Based Board.

In all cases firewire is just spuradic. prob 20% of the time when requested, the firewire capture starts. this makes scheduled recordings pretty useless.

I've tried 2 diffrent cables as well between all the cards. I have not tried broadcast mode yet now that I'm on the Intel Board, but the other 3 cards have never worked with broadcast, just P2P

Would anyone with a working Firewire setup do a lspci for me, and post what chipset your firewire card is? I'm very interested in anyone with the western digital card, to find out what chipset it runs.

On a totaly diffrent note, I am *EXTREMELY* impressed with knoppmyth right now. I was figuring I'd have to reinstall knoppmyth so I wasn't worried about loosing everything, but for giggles, I tried to boot it on the new motherboard.

I have not tried audio yet, (alsamixer shows the new sound stuff, so I think it works) but I migrated from AMD/Via Chipset to P4/Intel Chipset tonite, and booted myth the first time (made sure the same HD was set to boot) and even though my LVM drives were on diffrent chains it booted up, and worked the first time. the Setup ran since it redetected the capture cards, but after that... it worked.. I'm just in Awe about this.. second boot of the machine (first was to make sure everything was ok), and KnoppMyth Loaded up, and WORKED!

X loaded, TV worked, LVM worked, I'm just in awe.... I can't even begin to express how impressed I am with the KnoppMyth Team.

Fantastic Job guys. I'll be bragging about that to my sageTV using Boss at work tomorrow ;) He'd be reinstalling Windows right now if he did that.. :)
