I'm going to create a mythtv box, and I have a couple of questions that shouldn't be too hard for most users here to answer, I'd think.
First, how taxing (cpu/ram) is streaming recorded tv over the web while I am recording another show? Is it basically the same as recording and watching on the box-itself?
Second, if I network my knoppmyth box and a windows computer, can I transfer recorded tv shows from the box to the windows computer? Is it anymore difficult to do than it would be from a common linux distrobution (see my last question)?
Lastly, with knoppmyth, is it basically all a gui system and that's it, or do I have control of a terminal, a desktop, etc as well (ie does it act like it's own OS or is it basically general knoppix running an application?)

To answer your last two questions... Perhaps a search of the forum and or wiki.

I've tried searching the forums (did that before and after I posted), but the problem is that there are a ton of posts that don't have anything to do with what I'm searching for i.e. "terminal".
I believe that some things are correct, but I can't find specific concrete answers saying you're right. I'd really appreciate it if someone could at least give me a yes or a no. For example I think you can set up Samba to solve issue 2 and that you can get a terminal, but beyond that I don't know. Sorry.

Did you search the wiki as cesman instructed? If you had searched it for "samba" you would have turned up the following link as the first search result, which is indeed how to transfer recorded TV shows from your MythTV box to your Windows computer:
http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? ... SambaHowTo
If you exit MythTV's front end after installing KnoppMyth, you will have a desktop and some apps (yes, terminal is one of them). Recent versions use fluxbox as its window manager.

Youv'e really got to be kidding. You couldn't have did any searches, almost ALL of this is covered on the mythtv site or in knoppmyth docs!
Searching the forums would have answered your questions. In fact I specifically remember in the knoppmyth docs Alt-X will bring up an x-term window.
If you use mythstreamTV for streaming recorded programs, which uses VLC, then you will be fine. See my signature below to view my system specs.
Samba will work perfectly to transfer files back and forth. Very easy to setup (if you read the documentation).
Mythtv/knoppmyth is nothing more than a program that runs full screen on top of the fluxbox deskto.....
You know what, I am not going to get into it. Read that docs at the mythtv website and the docs for knoppmyth. The linux community is built upon the phrase about teaching someone to fish rather than giving them a fish.
