It seems my post in the Installation forum has been removed so this seems the next best thing.

Hi, just begining exploring KnoppMyth. Already searched this forum and some MythTV mailinglists but I cannot not find how to add video covers.

There is a directory .covers and I tried placing an image in there with the same name as the video (a .jpg file) even copied directly into the video directory, even made it hidden, but no such luck. Does anyone know where to place the cover and how it should be named ?

Regards
Moob

I have a directory /myth/video_covers and put them in there. When you go into the video manager and select the video you can edit the information and select that cover file.

Thanks for the info. I use R5A26 and there is only a .covers directory. I tried to start the video manager but then is crashes MythTV. Creating a video_covers directory does not solve the problem.

It shouldn't matter where one puts the covers. You can define where the 'cover dir' is in the setup. Now, if you have a.mpg and a.jpg, I don't think MythVideo automatically assumes a.jpg is the cover for a.mpg as again, that can be defined in the Video Manager. If MythTV crashing, run the frontend from an xterm and take a look at the backend log. Last, read the 'read me' before posting in KnoppMyth -> Installation.

When I start the videomanager I get an 'Illegal instrucion' back. I did found somewere in this forum that someone else had the same, and some more, problems with it and he was also using a VIA proc. It seems that it needs recompiling for the VIA proc, unfortunattely gmake is not present on KnoppMyth. Problem is that I don't know what else is missing to make it compile so I leave this as it is at the moment.

Simply calling the image file the same name as the video file will not make a difference. Everything is stored in database entries. You can run the TV and IMDB batch grabbers to get most of your video covers.

Everything that is compiled for KnoppMyth, is compiled in the same chroot environment that I build the distro in. There is no reason that you shouldn't be able to recompile anything.

Got it working. I have recompiled 'libmythvideo.so' (I've used the source from MythTV) with the option '-march=c3' instead of '-march=pentiumpro' and copied the resulting .so file into /usr/lib/mythtv/plugins (after first copying the original one, you never know)

I will try to use 'pentium' and 'pentium-mmx' to see if this makes a difference.

It seems that the cover file names are named after the imdb #. I have several movies that arent in imdb. I tried putting an image of the movie in my covers directory where the rest of them are, then i did "edit metadata" and pointed it to the picture I just uploaded, but it wont display. Is there a specific way this needs to be done?

Place the cover images (I use .jpg) in the directory you've configured to hold the covers and then start the videomanager, select which cover to use for a particular movie and save it. That should do it.
