Oops! I forgot to add that I could only get the scan to work if I manually input the freq 5833330 AND changed the BW to 8Mhz. Once I did this it all seemed to work just fine. The other Transports were detedted automatically.

Q. Is 'Transport' another term for a Multiplex. i.e. Multiplex is the one RF carrier (frequency) which carries a number of individual digital channels. Maybe Multiplex is a european term.

Having to set the bandwidth to 8mhz is normal :)

Yeah I think transport = multiplex

When I first used 26 i entered the first transponder frequency and it only found the first set of bbc channels found. i had to manually add transports for all the rest.
go figure....

.........UPDATE........
Actually, after reading through this on my new build I took the suggestion about adding one frequency and 8mhz. Worked like a treat.

Anyone got any Nova-T related reasons as to why R5A26 is better than R5A22? I gather we can't upgrade from 22 to 26 so was contemplating a HD wipe if there was any tempting reasons. Also wondering what is lost in R5A26, given that MythTv has gone from 0.18.2 to 0.18.1.

Some good questions. R5A26 is my first install so can't comment on previous vers. There is no (obvious) mention of 0.18.2 on the MythTV site. So I guess that is because it was taken from some CVS tree somewhere. Which is why the upgrade path is broken. Not a lot to help you here!

PS. I've still to find the time to get my silver remote working.

Thanks for this great guide Parkinpants, I was using R5A16 and decided it was about time to do a clean install.

I just have one question, I’ve followed the guide to the 't' everything works apart from the EPG, how do I populate the database with program info? :?

I left the box on over night, thinking that it might sort itself out, i checked this morning, and the db was empty.
:(
In the previous version i was using script to download the epg from the air and into an xmltv file. i then had a cron job that would use mythfilldatabase to populate.

If i've missed something obvious I apologise.

I assume you are in one of the countries where EPG is available... UK and Sweden I think. When you set up the 'transports' for channel frequencies... if you did it by 'import channels.conf' file then this doesn't automatically enable the EPG option. If you did it the other way (manually) then just make sure that for each channel the 'enable EPG/OTA' option is enabled - on the channels editor screen for mythtv-setup.

If not, then all I can say is 'timmy!'.

Hey Parkingpanys,
I beleive you can upgrade from '22 to R5A26, I read somewhere that Cesman himself has done it without hiccup (Sorry if I'm mis-quoting you).
Don't know what the benifits are tho' over an R5A22 install, except the upgrade thingie isn't broken.

I've clearly stated that R5A22 users SHOULD NOT upgrade to R5A26.

Oh, - thought I'd read that you'd upgraded from '22 several times without issue. Must've imagined it. Sorry for misinformation!

Thank you for this fantastic help file. I am new to both Linux and Mythtv and this saw me though the pains of installation. I got it working in one evening.
I have installed it many times after wards to fix my errors. but all up and running now. Thank you again!

Jim

I second that on the very good help file and other posts here. Apart from having to put an initial freq of 730000000 (Tacolneston) which seems to work here in East Anglia UK the instalation went OK using R5A30.1.
One question, is it possible to recieve DVBT radio stations on the Nova Ts, when scanning it says "Skipping not a television service" when it picks up a radio service.
If it is not possible on the Nova Ts can a seperate FM tuner card be used??

Thanks in advance

On to trying to set up the remote.

I've recently upgraded to KM R5A30.5.

It seems the updates of Mythtv are gradually integrating the dvb setup utilities into the frontend to make it a more streamlined/user friendly true set top box style process.

I tried the new SCAN ALL option from the mythtv-setup (as opposed to the usual messy "dvbscan" - channels.conf - import channel transport saga). This picked up all the channels in the right order, except for BBC channels.
(To solve, I added a transport for BBC channels - by manually importing the settings from a dvbscan generated uk-Winterhill channels.conf file.)

In addition there is now a bit of programming work gone into the "kill backend" conflict thingy.

In short, I can almost set up the channels without doing any # bollox, just the BBC channels that let me down.

Setting up the remote to get all the buttons working is still a pain in the arse, shame that isn't automated - probably tricky to do though given that every one will have a different EventX number.

Parkinpants, in the big remotes thread i posted a script which can detect and set the correct event number :)

I continued to use this line at the end of bootmisc.sh
Code:
/usr/local/sbin/lircd --device="/dev/input/event3" /etc/lirc/lircd.conf
from the original tutorial in R5B7 and it caused no end of problems

So if using R5B7 DO NOT edit bootmisc.sh and add this line or irexec and irxevent don't run when myth runs. I spent 12 hours figuring this out!
