Hi,
I am using R5A26 on an ASUS m/b with intergrated spdif output.
All the hardware is working fine and I can play audio via the spdif using:
aplay -D hw:0,4 /home/ice.wav

The part I am having problems with is telling Knoppmyth which "Audio Output Device:" to use.
I have tried all the standard /dev/dsp etc and even ALSA:digital etc and even ALSA:plughw:0,4 (I found this on the Internet).
But everytime I go to watch tv it comes up with "no audio error"
I know I am close I just can't work out where to find the list of available devices.

root@mythtv:/dev# aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH5]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: ICH5 [Intel ICH5], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH5 - IEC958]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

as u can see aplay sees the digital output and works fine.

regards

Yes I have, I get the same error as usual when I go to watch tv "Mixer attach error -2 No such file or directory Check Mixer Name in Setup /dev/mixer"

The trouble is that I don't know how to "Check Mixer Name in Setup /dev/mixer"

Is there a way to get a list of ALSA options?

thanks

Did you try /usr/bin/alsamixer from the shell? It will show you all of your available inputs/outputs for your sound card (assuming you have just one - otherwise you have to specify which card you are trying to capture from with "alsamixer -c #" where # is the sound card number). Pressing tab will cycle through input, output, and all audio channels, and you should find an option for spdif out, which you can turn on and off by pressing "m".

Got It!

I noticed the error changed depending on what I put after ALSA: and found this post on the forum
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... tach+error

Which sugested I turn off the internal volume controls and the error went away.

so to recap

Output device = ALSA:spdif

and turn of "Use internal volume controls" on the same page.

I also had to set the audio output device for MythMusic to ALSA:spdif as well.

Just have to fix the sound on Xine etc and its finished....
I noticed a few posts on the subject so off to do some more reading...
