1: Where is the overscan control? (need to adjust it a bit on my via epia board)

2: When i see tv, something there are some green/blue/purple boxes under the picture. (the tv picture gets smaller than normal, and these colors are under it) how ever if i quick tv mode, and enter again, everything is fine, any one having any ideas?

Are you using an nvidia card--most (if not all) epia boards I am aware of have a single pci slot. I guess it is possible you are using a USB tuner.

This may depend on your version of mythtv, but have you tried Utilities/Setup->Setup->TV settings->playback--->There's an option for overscan.

the problem, is there is a black border all round my screen. like the resolution is height enought or something.

its realy anoying its there, isent there a way to get away?

notice that even on the desktop there is a black border. hope there is a way to solve this, as its quite anoying seeing tv, what that big a black border around the screen... its around 2cm / 2½cm so its pretty big

You'll need to edit the XF86config-4 file to get the built-in gfx to overscan the image to the TV. It's off by default. Under the Device section you'll need a line like:



Google for epia XF86config-4 files and you should find some samples to try. After you get the output to overscan, the GUI may go off the screen. Get into the Utilities/Setup->Setup->Appearance menu and adjust the size of the MythTV gui so that it's centered on the screen. You can also adjust the overscan on the playback of the recordings and live TV under the Utilities/Setup->Setup->TV settings->playback menu. It took me a while to get my settings where I needed them since my s-video output wasn't centered on the TV screen once I activated the overscan in XF86config-4.

The gui settings is under Utilities/Setup->Setup->Appearance it is the second screen under Appearance. The TV settings for overscan and placement is under the playback menu.

yes but i feel its the image that dosent fit the entire screen, leaving a black border.. like to low ressolution or something.

What are you viewing your mythtv on? That looks like a computer monitor. If that is the case then it should be easy to adjust the picture size and position using the monitor's controls.

Its a sony triniton television, so cant do that.. but yes that would had ben an easy sollusion!

Couple things:
This is a tool i came across to effect epia out, don't know if it would work with your model.

Would help to get your exact mobo model, to find out the exact video card that is on it. If it is gfx, just type in nvidia-settings and go to TV than overscan, increase it till it fills the screen, or if it doesn't exactly, fills it more, and set the gui settings and playback settings in mythtv accordingly.

Second, are you going in the s-video, component, vga slot?
If it's component or vga you might want to try this to get high-def out (just helped me get 720p finally), as you were concernced about the resolution.

Ok it's via. I don't know if nvidia-settings will work with that. you can check this page out, the chipsets he list are on the board you linked to (VT1622 which is your tv-out chip).

Looks like your 1622 has a 720x480Noscale mode, that has cleaner tv output with minimal overscan. If you want overscan 720x480Over it looks like. But it doesn't look like it does greater resolutions however, but that shouldn't matter unless your doing HD, cause the PVR's record a max of 720x480.
