I posted this already, but it seems that someone deleted the post. In the snapshot image of a recorded show:



you will notice there is static or artifact that extends about 10-20 pixels all the way across the screen. This isn't on the component output when I watch it live without mythtv. Is there something I can do to get rid of this or fix, or is this a firewire cable problem?

Motherboard: K8T Neo-FIS2R
Onboard Firewire: IA VT6307 IEEE1394 controller
Video: nVidia GeForece 4 4200 Ti 128MB RAM
STB: Motorola DCT-6200
Monitor: Olevia LT30HV
Connection between PC and Monitor: DVI
Connection between STB and PC: Firewire, Port 0, Node 0, left-most firewire port on STB viewing from behind.
Tuner Setting: Broadcast

Uh sorry but appart from the image being blurry I see nothing wrong with it. What artifact are you talking about?

Most TV's don't display the very top, bottom, left, and right. So, cameras and broadcasters will "throw" those lines away or not put a picture there. You can turn up the overscan for your card and the lines will disappear.

How do I overscan? I don't need to overscan the nVidia card sending the signal. I'm getting the signal over firewire, so I'm recording what is being sent to my PC.

Where in Myth do I change these settings?

Ohh you are complaining about the black pixels areound the border and the weird flashing pixels at the top? Thoes are perfectly normal.

If you don't like looking at them you need to adjust the overscan on your nvidia card you get rid of it on the TV. But if you view it in on a different computer in a window (say windows media player) you will have to deal with the underscan.

I figured it out last night. I dug into the settings menus over and over again until I found what I was looking for. I got rid of the top flashing stuff and now Live TV and Recordings show perfectly now.

Could you post your settings? I tried playing around with the overscan settings but I'm still getting the lines.

Utilities/Setup >> Setup >> TV Settings >> Playback.

On the 8th screen (Overscan) I changed "Vertical over/underscan percentage" to "2". That solved my problem when playing, but when I transfer the video elsewhere (another pc or dvd) the snow will still show only because I'm hiding it on my end.

I had tried increasing the overscan in increments of 5 percent up to 20 percent but it didn't seem to help, probably because just like you pointed out I'm using a VGA connection to a projector.

Is there any way to crop x number of pixels at the top of the screen?
