the grabber method is what d1 uses for their mythtv system that they sell
d1 has a grabber for weather? How would it work? Mythweather doesnt seem to be setup for it. Have they re-coded it? GPL?

its not very well integrated in my opinion considering it only uses just one source for ALL its info regarding forcasts and another site that grabs the doplar

the xmltv grabber system is much more 'reliable' in the sense that any other country apart from the states gets forgotten about or put down the bottom of the list ie australia

It would be better if the code was more modular with the dislpay stuff being separate from the acquisition of the weather data. Its a bit like a scrambled egg at the moment. Having weather grabbers would certainly achieve this, but so would better code design.

jbman, do you have a link, as I don't quite understand what you mean. Is it that myth weather has been recorded or where they get the data?

You will have to excuse my ignorance, I'm married, have a 9 year old daughter and the grey hair is starting to appear.

I presume he is talking about this: http://www.hmc.com.au/hmc/index.html I had a look today and saw somewhere mention that they had integrated weather radar images which they would almost certainly have to change the code for. Not sure where you get their code. Would be interesting to have a look. The link where they mention radar is in Features->weather->more.... It also states that the data comes from the aussie met bureau (BOM)!

I don't think they have done anything with it what so ever. I looked at the promotional video and radar image is the standard MythWeather.

I also found this tidbit in their FAQs:
Quote:
Issue 6: I want to build my own media centre based on my own hardware. Can I buy the Home Media Centre software only?

Solution: Unfortunately we cannot sell the HMC software to end users by itself. The HMC is an integrated device and its software is customised to work only on its specific hardware configuration. As such, it is unlikely that our software would function correctly on a machine you have built yourself. However, if you are looking to re-sell or distribute your own media centre device we would be delighted to discuss customising and licensing our software for your device.

Some much for GPL.

Either way I think we may have to go back to scratch to get what we want.

Sounds like a violation of GPL because surely its a derivative work. For derivative works, they are compelled to release their source code to anyone that buys their system. Anyone know someone with a D1 system?

Greg, you and I both know that, are you going to fight it? I personally don't have the time or energy to persist, may be an email to Isaac to let him know that someone is selling his work as there own :?

I don't really believe they have that much to offer anyway.

download the update ISO from their website and have a look. it seems to have a cron job that runs every hour to grab the weather data from BOM and insert it into their weather system. The code is different than the standard myth weather code we use now. I looked into this about 6 months ago but gave up trying to adapt their system into mine.

Looks like someone is going to do the hard work for us. All we will probably need is some sort of script to scrape the information from the met bureau site.

nice the BOM has their data online in xml format from memory so it shouldn't be to hard to grab it.

I dont think that the changes made by the Summer Of Code project have made their way into the main branch of mythtv. Until that happens, there is not much we can do to get reliable weather data.
