I was wonder if i could use Knoppmyth just to watch videos over a network. And skip the actually recording fuction and if not does anyone know a simple to use project that would allow me to do this.

Assuming that's a question, the answer is yes, you can use Knoppmyth to watch videos over a network, for most values of "watch videos over a network".

If you don't schedule any recordings, then MythTV won't record anything.

That said, if you don't care about recording anything, there may be better choices for "watching videos over a network." But, you'll have to tell us exactly what you mean by that, or all we can do is guess.

GeeXboX is a pretty easy to use Linux project. http://www.geexbox.org
it uses mplayer to play networked audio, video, and view pics.
-Bootable .ISO optially can be installed to HDD or pen drive.
-Supports good selection of NICs
-Supports a few popular remotes out of the box.
-Latest version supports UPnP
-Automounts windows shares
-ISO generation utility
-Runs well on some older hardware

However GeeXboX doesn't have the coolness factor on MythTV, such as movie posters, descriptions, filtering, weather, RSS, music playlists, functionality. IMO GeeXboX is a good 1st step for building a Media Centre.

I am basically try to build a small media pc for my mom. Being that i can share video over the home network and she can watch them in the other room. Seeing as i record a lot of shows on my computer and its in the room and i am tired of burning a dvd for 2-4 episodes. When i can just connect a spare computer to her pc and she can navigate to them and watch them.

There are two ways to do that.

1. You can have a server program that streams the video to a client (viewer) program. MythTV has it's own protocol, but there are also several standard protocols for that.
2. You can export the filesystem containing the video files and then use a stand-alone viewer on a second machine that has the exported filesystem mounted via the network. I find this requires less network bandwidth and CPU horsepower than using MythTV's streaming protocol with a MythTV client and server.

The first can be a bit complex because you have to set up a server program. The second is completely trivial and doesn't really require any special programs at all. You just need a media player that knows what to do with the file formats in which you've recorded things. If the video files are on a myth server, I posted a program a while back that will let you browse around the "recorded program" database and play selected files on any machine that can run mplayer and that has the myth tv data directory mounted. The other option is to run the script to create "pretty" filenames for the files (so you don't need the database to know what file is what show). Then you can use the filesystem browser of your choice.

Why would you need KnoppMyth for that?

How are the recordings saved on your computer? If they are saved as video files you mom's computer could use about any media player software.

If you are running MyhTV on your computer, a frontend install on her computer would allow her both to watch recordings and live-TV as well as schedule recordings.

I am running Windows. I have shows saved on my computer. And want to share them to a easy to use interface for. For insstance i want it so it jsut runs the file off my computer as if i was in network neighbor hood and just double clicked the file.

Ok, Just make a desktop shortcut on your mom's PC for the shared folder you stored the recording in. Install favorite media player on her PC, and install any needed codecs to play the files.
