Whilst watching some things I have recorded, the sound disappears and doesn't come back for the rest of the recording. This always seems to happen about 25-35 minutes in. Otherwise my setup is faultless.

This happens on about 25% of recordings. I've searched all the log files according to http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=CheckingLogFiles but notice nothing odd.

The only thing I could think of trying is upgrading to the latest version (R5A30.2 as of now), but that's a bit lame really.

Any clues..?

check out your recordings and see if the ones that are failing are on the same channel.

I find that BBC1 uses a higher bit rate 256k for audio.

Do you have the same problem with live tv??

I've had recordings on at least BBC1 and ITV1 lose sound.

Live TV is just fine.

Are all the recordings dvb-t recordings or are some of them analogue??

have you tried playing them back with mplayer?

or converting them to dvd with mythburn, if you look at the myth burn logs it gives you info on the audio content

if the recording are on particular group of channels are they on the same mux

have you tried playing recordings on the backend ??

does it drop sound at a aspect ratio change or something like that.

sorry about all the questions but the more info we have the better chance of finding the problem

If you have a windows machine lying about, try copying one of the affected files to it & try watching it ( you will need the mythtv filters from: http://dsmyth.sourceforge.net/ )

This should help narrow down whether its a playback or recording problem :)

I have the same Nova-T and haven't experienced any loss of sound either using r5a16 or r5a22.

I have no problem with answering questions - as you say it gives a better chance of resolution..!

The problem exists when playing back on both front and back ends.

All the recordings are from dvb-t - I don't even have an analogue card.

At the point when the sound goes, the picture is stable.

The two most recently affected recordings were from BBC1 and ITV1 which are on a different mux for me.

I used nuvexport to produce an mpg file and played it with both xine and mplayer:- but the mpg ends at the exact point where the sound was lost. It's almost like the original file has got corrupted somehow.

I found this, which looks like my thang. Any idea what the whole 'ot' 'TS' mode thing is..?

Now I look at one of my affected recordings really carefully, there is some sort of artefact when the sound vanishes. Almost imperceptible.

[0:42] <adante> anybody using dvb experience the sound cutout issue when there's a reception glitch?
[0:43] <Agrajag-> yeah
[0:43] <Agrajag-> i used ot
[0:43] <Agrajag-> switched to TS mode
[0:43] <Agrajag-> never had it since

AS far as i am aware R26 Uses TS for dvb just played some of my old recordings back and they use TS format.

Have you got some transcode options set up or are they as is dvb-t recordings??

Maybe it could be caused by bad signal strength, especialy if its dropping out after a blip in the picture.

If you play back the recording in mplayer mplayer states wether its a ts type recording also you can flip between audio streams this may help determine if the sound is gone or just lost in the stream ?

I have no transcoding running - it's all just dvb-t recordings.

Is it possible to play the .nuv file directly with mplayer..?

I've copied the file to my Windows box but it won't play - I guess i'm not using the filters properly. I'll try harder...

The plot thickens...if I watch the recording directly from mythtv and switch audio streams the main stream stops but the second stream is there all the way through the recording.

It may be a reception issue - i'm using a 'normal' aerial not a 'digital' one. If the weather is fine then all is well - in misty or rainy weather I lose some of the muxs or the just get really crappy. Maybe I should fork out for a 'digital' aerial..?

Hi could def be a reception problem the second audio channel much lower bit rate usualy 64k mono wheras on bbc1 256k stereo for the first channel.

If you scan for channels I think it gives you signal strength to noise ratio figures if i remember rightly i get about 95% strength and about 75% ratio. I had a cheep cable between wall socket an input s/n droped below 60% and sound kept breaking up.

Yes i use mplayer to play nuv files on my dose box as is no filters loaded although i already had a lot loaded for other jobs so maybee i had already got the necc filters. I think it should just play though

you could use mplayer on your front/backend to play them ??
