New install of R5A30.2

What scripts or gui screens can modify the config files for remotes. I saw some strange behaviour last night while trying to get my remote working.

I have the hauppauge silver remote. During the configuration, I selected the haupage silver remote. I looked at the ~mythtv/.mythtv/lirc file and it contained what appeard to be the config file for the hauppauge silver remote. The remote would not work. Using irw, nothing came to the screen when I pressed the buttons on the remote.

I gave up and went on to more important issues, and later came back to this. I was going to post the problem, so I walked through the steps of reproducing it. This time when I ran irw, it showd output almost everytime I pressed a button. Each line of output was flagged with something like Hauppage Gray UP. I went back and looked at the lirc config file in ~mythtv/.mythtv and found it had changed to the config for the gray remote. I'd like to know what I could have done to change this config file.

I'd also like to know if this is the correct config file for my remote. It seems to behave eraticly but, I think that is due to cpu load.

OK I was on crack. I checked the time stamps on both config files, the ones in /etc/lirc and the ones in ~mythtv/.lircrc. They have never been modified since the knoppmyth install.

I read the post at http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4609 about configuring the silver remote in R5A15.1. I assumed it did not apply to me since I am running R5A30.2 with lircd 7.2. Am I wrong? Do I need to rebuild lircd for the silver remote?

I went throught the auto install for knoppmyth, and it asked me what remote I had. Can someone tell me what script that was and if it can be re-run?

Looking at the knoppix install guide it would seem that I need to recompile lircd.

"LIRC: So you can use a remote! LIRC is compiled to support Hauppauge tuners/remotes. The configuration file in /etc/lircd.conf is for the Hauppauge gray remote. lircrc in /home/mythtv/.mythtv/lircrc is for the Hauppauge gray remote. For more information on LIRC, see lirc.org. Source is in /usr/src/. If you have a remote other than the gray Hauppauge remote, you need to recompile LIRC for that remote. "

I'm taking this to the hardware forum, I think I have a flakey remote or ir reciever.

i dont find the name of the remote configure script either...
